Have You Ever Heard Of The 737-900X?

Tue Mar 20, 2001 11:00 pm

Hi everybody,

I read somewhere (I think in Flug Revue´s current edition) that Boeing was looking into the possibility of fitting the 739 with additional emergency exits, thus increasing capacity to over 200 pax as opposed to the standard 739´s 189.
Do you have any info on that "737-900X"? How seriously are they pursuing that, where would the exits be located, were they asked to do it by customers etc.?
Any insight appreciated,

Thanks,

I've read something about this not long ago. Boeing is/was thinking of adding a extra emergency exit to sell/lease the -900 to the European charters carriers.
Just at the moment, I can't remember where I read this info. I hope Boeing goes ahead with the improvement, tho. I would love to see the -900 with upgraded features. Regards.

What about an exit in the back like the 727 MD80's. WOuld that add to much weight?

Adding a 727/DC-9/MD-80-type rear exit would be nearly impossible to install on an aircraft with a conventional tail. The 727, DC-9, & MD-80 are all T-tail designs which allow for the rear exit because the horizontal stabilizer sits at the top of the vertical stabilizer rather than being attached to the rear of the fuselage. I think they would add an additional entry doors to the rear cabin similar to some of the 757s.
