Which Airport Has The Best Layout?

Wed Mar 21, 2001 6:17 am

I was just wondering which MAJOR airport has the best layout for sending and recieving aircrafts. I am talking about the big ones, like the major hubs. As well, please comment on which is easier to get to the terminals from the Taxiways.

I obviously like my home airport YYZ (toronto) I think its layed out in a manner that can a handle traffic efficiently. As well they are building and building there to make it better. The one that I am not that impressed with is LAS, it just seems like if the weather isn't good (wind blowing strong) it takes a long time to get off the ground. MIA was an ok airport but I have not been around it too much, just the terminal where Air Canada flies into!

Thanks,

G

Denver is the most logical, efficient, and spacious airport in terms of passenger movement and aircraft movement. There are 5 12,000 ft. runways (soon 6th 16,000 footer). This gets the planes off the ground quickly. There is plenty of taxi space and big concourses.

It's just a great airport.

Add your comments about DEN.

OSL - when the runways aren't icy and it isn't all fogged up.

DEN and DFW are definitely two of the best. ATL runs a close second. PIT and DTW will be first class when all of the construction is done. The worst one has to be LGA and CLE. CLE only has one runway for arrivals at any time, and departures have to cross that one runway to take off. It couldn't be any worse! It was definitely not built to be a hub airport.

I agree DIA has the best layout. Too bad that alone doesn't make it 5 billion dollars better than stapleton.

Yep yep...Den and Atl...the concourse system they employ makes them efficient with movements....Den a sligh bit more because of the 6 runways compared to atlanta 4.

Thanks, I have not been able to visit Denver or Atlanta yet, but I am more interested in ATC these days. To be honest I am getting into it hopefully in Canada. I like the Idea of getting the most amount of people in and out of the airport at one time. Just the organization and the involvement of the brain to figure this stuff out....I hope I get in.

Once I am in I will want to learn how to fly as well, nothing serious though, unless i really like it then who know....

But, Thanks again, I will try and search these airports on here for pics and soon visit them.

DFW hands down,DFW handles twice as many flight operations than DIA,and more than 1 third the pax that DIA handles on a yearly basis.DIA has the land but so does DFW.

I would say that several airports come to mind:

Pittsburgh PIT. The terminal is a big- X. Easy to get from one section to another, etc. Has a mall. Few delays.

Washington Dulles IAD. Lots of growth potential...but they MUST remove the bus system and replace it with an underground train! Rarely huge delays.

Atlanta ATL. Duel runway takeoffs and landings. If it were not for the high capacity of the airport's runways you could never leave this airport! (very conjested).
