Judge Agreed Killing KLM Squirels

Wed Mar 21, 2001 8:12 am

Today a Dutch judge decided that it was not wrong that KLM killed 400 squirels by throwing them in a wood chopper, few years ago. Suspicious for animal diseases and/or infections KLM decided to kill the squirels which make a stopover for China. "The method was however strange but by killing them by the regular way such as with gas or injections would have caused the same pain", the judge announced...

Well I think that injections would have been a far less cruel way to kill them. Actually it's very tasteless what KLM did.

Yes, I think it was cruel as well.

What KLM did was indeed tasteless. They didn't do a good job for the public and so they damaged their own reputation (again). The Dutch airline comment was that the killing by woodchopper was efficient and quick. KLM, reliable? Yes, the woodchopper was reliable, it functioned.

where are the crazy PETA members ? those wackos should be all over this. I commend KLM for a job well done. Sometime you gotta do what you gotta do.

Right after watching "Fargo" right? Ahhh, the power of Hollywood. Injections? 400 animals, 400 alcohol swabs (gotta be safe), 400 needles(gotta be safe), and one poor f**k to hold the squirming rodent(yes..rodent), and one poor f**k to stick it. Gas? Well okay, put them in a closet and run a hose from your Rambler. Maybe you will get them all...maybe. Use a wood chopper?.....100% kill ratio. Highly reliable. KUDOs to KLM!!!! Just watchout for the media next time.

Hey,

Hello!!!!!! These are living & breading animals we are talking about. I can't believe the posts by TWA_PHX and DirkSavage!

About the judge:

The method was however strange but by killing them by the regular way such as with gas or injections would have caused the same pain", the judge announced...

Has he tried and tested these methods that he can declare that they all cause the same pain? I think NOT!!!!

If he was given the death penalty (which I am against) and the judge said: would you like to die by lethal injection or by being put into a machine alive and cut into pieces? I certainly think he would choose the 1st method!

Kind Regards,

TWA_PHX, DirkSavage,

as 'efficient' as the method might have been there are laws against animal cruelty in the EU which have to be followed by everybody.

I'm sure it would also be more 'efficient' for instance for KLM to just dump the used oil from an oil change in the backyard of their maintenance hangar instead of having it trucked off to some processing plant.

All the cattle currently being slaughtered in the EU because of Foot and Mouth Disease all have to have injections first because the law prohibits animal cruelty. But I'm sure TWA_PHX and DirkSavage would propose machine-gunning them down because it's more 'efficient', right?

Where the hell did KLM get a woodchopper from? Is that a standard airplane maintenace accessory?

Anyway, are there any more details about this? Why were the squirells flown around in the first place, if they were a disease risk?

Well, if they had to be killed, I don't think it makes much of a difference in what way they lose their lives - after all, a woodchopper is probably damn fast and I don't expect they suffered more than being killed by less yucky methods....

Actually we have laws against using weapons such as guns, so this wouldn't fly.
How can you go wrong with woodchoppers? Don't forget about the NW/KL partnership Fargo isn't to far from Minneapolis.
The real question is why waste time on a woodchopper when you can just throw them through a GE 744 engine? God knows they work well enough on the birds!

Well the fact that KLM was taken to court already shows that it raised eyebrows no matter how the judge finally decided...

What is wrong with a chipper.....It would be over very quickly....Would you prefer them to run them down to catering???

Seriously though Somebody mentioned shooting them. That is one of the most humane ways that you can take an animals life. That is if the person uses the proper size cartridge. A bullet kills by transfering enough energy to the target that it causes the spontanious failure of the circulartory system and unconciousness in the target.

Actually I will call giving the cows an injection before they are put down a waste of effort too. If you are going to do that you might as well just give them a fatal dosage right then and there. If you shoot them....well read the preceding paragraph....

Life is cruel guys.....better get used to it.

There are way too many "Bambi" biologists out there.

I know it is cruel, but we shouldn't be too shocked about it as KLM (and other airlines) have been using these shredding machines to dispose of poultry for years.
