Mesa First Regional Airline To Offer First Class

Thu Mar 22, 2001 4:59 pm

Just read the HP press release on new Mesa/America West Express CRJ700s and CRJ900s that will each offer six first class seats. Is it just me, or is this unprecedented for a codeshare/regional to offer a premium class service?

Mesaba offers 16 FC seats on its ARJ-85s as Northwest Airlink.

The only regional carrier with first-class that comes to mind is the Northwest Airlink ARJ-85 aircraft. They have a 16F/53Y configuration and coach is 5 seats across. Since Mesa's CRJs are only 4 across in coach, it'll be interesting to see how it will come out.

1 and 2 in F maybe? Personally, I think Ornstein should look at more operational issues. While better than in the past, they are still a mess.

I didn't know HPX was getting Mesa's big CRJ's... I guess some of those CRJ markets, I guess the ones out of CMH really demand the need for first class.

I do not think their is a need for first class. The flights they go on are just so short. They are too short for a first class.

Actually most HP CRJ routes are around 1 and half to 2 hours long. I think the shortest ones out west are PHX-FAT and PHX-ELP. And shorter flights on mainline jets have f/c... must be a market.

Travalt its not on all of NW Airlinks RJ'S . Only on the Mesabas Avro RJ85 . They seat 16 in First and 53 in coach and Mesaba operates 36 of these .
