Former Reno Air MD-80s In AA's Fleet

Fri Mar 23, 2001 1:06 pm

Anyone know when the last Reno Air 80s in AA's fleet will end their lease and be removed? I thought I heard once they would all be gone by April. Is this true? If not when? Thanks!

Only the MD90s will be gone by April. The former QQ MD80 and MD87 will both be completely phased out by the end of this year.

The MD-90s are indeed on their last legs. I am flying a 737-800 round-trip on the SJC-LAX route next month. The flights I'm taking are both currently operated by MD-90s. Effective April 1st, 737-800s takeover.

There are also some regular AA MD-80s (ie... the polished aluminum exterior panels and standard interior configuration) now operating on the ex-QQ routes.

I loved flying the MD-90s, due to their whisper-quiet noise level up front and impressive takeoff power and climb rate. I'll be sorry to see them go.

Truly a shame - I had 2 flights on MD90s two weeks ago, my only ones ever, and they were on DL. It's a great a/c!

there is just one MD-90 left, will be gone by april. 15
R80's and R87'S are left in the fleet, and will be gone by
the end of the year. at first i thought they were going to keep the 90's but i guess not, too bad it was a quiet
powerful plane.

Thanks for the info...

Wow, 737-800s from LAX to SJC, I'll have to book myself on that, been dying to get on a AA 738 but as a LAX-JFk flyer only the past year it is impossible to get one.

How about the converse -- Have any ex-Reno aircraft and or crew been flying regular (not inherited from Reno Air) routes for AA?

Aircraft = NO!
Crews = YES! Only MD90 crews are locked into west coast only flying --because the airplanes were locked into west coast only flying.
