AeroMexico 737NG?

Sun Mar 25, 2001 7:48 am

Hello everyone!
I readed on a website (aerotransport.free.fr) that AeroMexico ordered 15 B737-600 last november, 6 to be delivered by 2003 and 9 by 2004. Is this true?
Last year I remember the airline was testing the 717 and 737NG, according to the newspapers.
I also know that some unidentified airlines ordered the 737NG around that time so Im wondering if AM really ordered those planes? What do you think?

Hi Alvaro,
Well now a days with the sell of both Cintras big companies (AM, MX) i guess things are going to change until they are sold.

Although, 1 month ago Aeromexicos CEO (Alfonso Pasquel) and ASPA pilots went to Seattle for a visit to see the B717-200, and many say the first 4 get here by october, but im not sure if they are going to wait until we are sold, or before.
Arriving this month is a new B767-300, and 2 MD87(Finnair) to make company to the other beautiful MD87's
that arrived a couple of months ago. Let me say that i would like to congratulate those finnair guys, the planes are in excellent condition. Not like the other ones that came from Alaska Air.

Take Care
JAVO.

Hey JAVO!
Thanks a lot for the information. But do you know if is true about those 737NG? I hope so, AM really needs to improve their fleet in order to grow with the market, as well as Mexicana.
I don´t know why the airline never announces when is getting a new plane. I didn´t know about the new 767, is it brand-new or already in use? Purchased or leased? Also, are you sure they ordered the 717? I hope they did too because by 2004 none DC-9 will be able to fly in Mexico because of a new law. That could be bad for Aero California.

The rumor mill is saying that Aeromexico (and Mexicana) are both interested in the 717. An order from both airlines is said to be pending. Getting the 717 would make a lot of sense for AM, since they operate the older siblings of the 717; now Mexicana does need something to replace their Fokkers, and the 717 could be that plane. An order from these airlines would be a much needed boost for the 717 program.

I think it would be nice if more airlines ordered the 736. Today it's only SAS, Lauda Air and Tunis Air who operates the baby 737, at least as far as I know. Hope that they will get them.

Alfonso Pasquel stated that they will wait until AM is sold to start planning the fleet renewal. But he urged IPAB to sell both AM and MX soon, because they need to make an order to get replacment for the aged DC9´s.
I think that AeroMexico should wait and see who will be the airline that owns some of its shares and then plan the new fleet. That will give AeroMexico and Mexicnan a better deal with eather Boeing or Airbus.
American Airlines will have to decline a big contract with Airbus for 50 A318´s and A319´s that they are getting with TWA´s purchase because they don´t go with their Boeing fleet. This means loosing money that TWA paid for the contract with Airbus.
If for example United buys some stake in Mexicana, the normal thing will be both operating A320´s in their destinations.
After this, I think that both AM and MX should wait and see what happends in the near future. Except for AM´s DC9´s I don´t think they have an old fleet.

By the way, when are the airlines going to be sold? It seems like an eternity. Are they now on sale or do they have to wait?

The process will take time, but IPAB already started with the Due Dilligence and sign a contract with Merrill Lynch to do it. After they end with the valuation of the assets of both AM and MX is up to IPAB and the Mexican Government to start the biding. I hope that AM and MX are sold before the year ends.

There are several planes used as presidential and VIP transports in the Mexican Air Force. Their designations start with "TP", which stands for "Transporte Presidencial". These are the TPs I know about:

- TP-01: 757-200
- TP-02: 737-300
- TP-03: 737-200
- TP-07: Gulfstream III

I believe, I'm not really sure, that the callsign used when the President is on board, no matter which aircraft, is changed to AP-01.

Finally, I know that Fox doesn't always use the 757. For example, for short flights, like from Mexico City to Fox's ranch in Guanajuato, the GIII is often used. Last week, the President flew to Sacramento, California, in TP-02.
