I just came off a Spirit Airlines flight from FLL to LGA (absolutely miserable but thats for another time) and I noticed that all groundhandling work was contracted out to Hudson General, at both FLL and LGA. Is Hudson a unionized firm? How are they able to perform cheaper than if Spirit did the work itself? And how many airlines are alowed to contract out groundhandling at airports. I know TW was forced to use IAM at all its bases, and in Europe they were stuck with their own very expensive work force.
