Beauty is more than skin deep. Aircraft with ungainly proportions, such as many of the CIS and USSR designs, were often built that way for a reason: to cope with harsh climates, unpaved runways, and vast stretches of terrain with minimal navigation aids. I won't argue that a Tu-134 is sleeker than a Concorde or Boeing 744, but that old aircraft (and its many brethren) has its own unique charm and dignity.
