Are BMI Likely To Change Options For A330s?

BMI British Midland currently have 4 A332s on order, with options for a further 8.
However, I read (on Pprune) that BMI are currently in negotiations with Airbus to scrap the A330 options in favour of A340s instead  Big thumbs up .
-Can anyone confirm this?
-Does this seem like a likely thing for BMI to be doing?
-Obviously A340s cost more, so would less than 8 optional a/c be being considered at the moment (if it's true)?

Remember that there are just as many jokers on PPrune as there are on this board.

Repeating every rumour that you like the sound of on there ad nauseam on here isn't sensible. Just because of the 'Professional' there's no reason to beleive that PPR is any more credible than here at times!

However, I think that if BMI were serious about operating UK-West Coast USA or UK-Oz flights a strong case could be made for them to purchase either a small number of A340-313Xs or new A340-500s.

Although, for their publicly announced route structure, the A330-200 fits just fine...

BMI probably saw the new RR Trent powered A340-600 that made them change their mind and go for the A340 instead of the A330.

if bmi intends to venture into additional markets, such as f.e. southeast asia and perhaps even australia, the a-340 seems to a the better choice than the 332.
but as long as they only operate a few us services, i´d say the stick with their a-330-200s.
