Loudest Airplane?

What is the loudest, noisyest airplane there is. Is the 757-300 very noisy? Or the 200?

Well... Loudest is hard to decide, but I have heard from many people that the Tu-95 "Bear" is extremely loud.

Dunno about the TU-95, but the Concorde is really something...

I was at an airshow last summer, and I saw Concorde take off about 500 feet or so away from us. It is so loud, your heart starts beating faster and faster as it nears you & takes off.

The Concorde is for sure loud like the Bac-111 or the Il-86. The Russian planes have a tendency to be loud.
The 757-200 or -300 is not loud.

From inside the airplane I have found the DC-9 to be the loudest if you're sitting in the back near the engines. And the Martin 4-0-4 sounds the loudest on takeoff. It sounds like those piston engines are going to fly apart.

I'm like 2 miles from MCO, and the loudest taking off would have to be the 727. The DC-9 is a killer when you're inside though.

I have to say it also depends where you are, standing how far below the aircraft. I have to say the loudest I've heard was the RAAF 707 at the Airshow '97 near Melbourne, Asutralia, also the 747s. Inside the cabin, the quietest I've been on was a FAT MD-82 in Taiwan on a domestic flight. The quietest for a widebody i've been on is the 777 and A340.

By the way, the 757-300 and -200 are not loud at all.

The loudest ive ever heard from the outside was a Concorde on Take-off from heathrow. I was sitting in a taxi to go to the airport and a concorde flew maybe 80 feet above us, AT MOST, and i thought i was gonna die, i thought that a plane was about to hit us.

From the inside , the loudest ive been on was the 727.
IT is loud and vibrates alot.

I have to agree in part with AA777, from the outside of the plane, the concorde and also the 727 and the older 737 generation.

From the inside I would say the 727 and also the 707.

Take care,

I think: Tu-86, Il-62, BAC 1-11 are the loudest.
The 757-200 and 300, are very quiet.

From the outside, I'd say the DC9 and 727. The 757's are amazingly quiet; Airbus are quiet too but their engines make a distinctive whine. From the inside, the DC9 wasn't all that terrible and i sat in the back. By the way, why did they make a window on the last row and call it a window seat when all you see is the engine???!! Anyway, quietest on the inside for me was an F100 - but of course i was sitting in the front.

I've never heard the Concorde, so from what I have heard an F-15 taking off at full afterburner and B-1B's just flying are pretty loud. If you count sonic booms, a B-1B broke the speed of sound directly over where I live. That was VERY loud.

BTW, JR737 there is no such thing as a Tu-86. The is a Il-86 and a Tu-95, but no Tu-86.

Talking about military, the Tornado is also amazing loud. The only time I've heard and see the Concorde, I was in the WC at home. I start hearing a strange noise from an aircraft, so strange that I went out to see what was it. Then I saw the Concorde taking off from FAO. This was about 10 years ago.
Any plane using afterburn must be loud.

Dear friends. If you want really loud airplanes you have to look to old generation jets:

Convair 880
DH Comet
Trident
Caravelle III/VI-N/VI-R
DC-8-11/21/32/43
B. 707-300/400
Concorde

All this group was something really bad!!! If you were looking to them and listening to them your brain would start like having a bell inside. The Caravelle with those RR Avons was terrible! Beeing aviation enthusiast at that time was like carrying a cross, you had to make great sacrifices!!! In our days now planes have sweet sounds to our hears, sometimes you dont even hear them comming!!!

I used to live on the flight path a couple of hundred yards from the end of Düsseldorf airport's main runway. It was the usual situation where you can tell what aircraft it was just by the noise of their engines. Although they had quite a few widebodies at DUS 747s, DC10s, TriStars, the noisiest (and dirtiest) bird in the sky were BA and Aer Lingus 1-11s. You would also tend to notice these aircraft more because they also had much shallower climb rates than those of most aircraft (and especially the ridiculously high aoa used by Lufthansa Jets.)
Perhaps if we devise a noise to weight ratio you'll see that the 1-11s come pretty near the top. More recently I lived 12 miles from LHR, but the only aircraft I would still hear inside was Concorde.

A Definitely Loud One...

Wed May 12, 1999 2:38 am

...check the IL-76 "Candid" on take-off.

Also, IL-62 and Tu-154 are loud compared to nowadays Western planes like B-757s and Airbuses.

I would really have to say the loudest airplanes
today are both the 727 and MD80/90's and lets not
forget the 737-200 series. I often plane watch
from my car at New York's LGA and find myself
winding my window up to drown out the loud noise
coming from those tired turbines.757-300 wrote:-------------------------------What is the loudest, noisyest airplane there is. Is the 757-300 very noisy? Or the 200?

The Concord, No doubt!! Lets just say at 9:10 in the morning you know immediatly the difference between a low flying 767-200 and the AF concord going into JFK!!!

You all tend to forget the real machines like the 707,727. and the Fokker 28 they all have real engines with plenty of get up and go. Stand at the back of an F28 when it is taking off and you will be surprised

I think it it the IL-64 (The one with 4 engines in the back) I heard one of Cubana take off at Zurich-Kloten. I almost lost my eardrums.

I think the Concorde takes the cake for the loudest airliner. But the Russian IL-62 (the one with 4 engines mounted on the tail), and other first generation jets are extremely loud also. These first generation aircraft include the B707, DC-8, Convair-880, Convair 990, and the B720.
