Delta To Fly Salt Lake City-Frankfurt?

Tue Mar 27, 2001 5:03 am

I was reading an article online about new flights to Frankfurt beginning in 2001. Along with Lufthansa's inaugurations of Denver and Phoenix. it also claimed that Delta Airlines would be flying nonstop Salt Lake City, UT-Frankfurt.

Is this just an error or is Delta actually planning on flying such a route? I find it quite odd, but I do have strong belief that the flight could be very well supported, with connections to India on one end and connections to the Southwest USA on the other end.

This sounds accurate being that SLC is a hub of Delta.

I think the route will do well for them, there are many businesses such as American Express card services, Morton Thiokol, Novell and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is headquarterd in Salt Lake. The Church has over 40,000 missionaries in over 180 countries worldwide, and they send them on DL as much as they can. FRA would be a European destination for them to connect to Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East.

Frankfurt makes no sense at all. Delta partners with Air France, remember? If Delta is flying anywhere internationally, Paris, Mexico City and Seoul would be the first destinations in order to link with their alliance partners.

Bicoastal, you make a good point, but if the market shows the demand is in place for FRA, you do not fly to CDG just because you are partnered with AF. You fly where you know you can have sufficient loads to have profitable ASM, RSM and Yields. I have no Idea if this is the case, I just wanted to make the point.

Yep, Air France would love having all of those Delta passengers fly to Frankfurt in order to make LUFTHANSA connections  Smile.

I read the same article and wondered the same thing. I checked in SABRE, while there's no nonstop, Delta will have a 1stop FRA-SLC roundtrip over JFK starting this Sunday.
