Emile,

Despite the fact that KLM holds out Northwest - and not the other way round - I do not know if the two airlines are currently thinking of a "deconnection" of their partnership. I have a good friend inside KLM... the Dutch evaluated possible benefits of leaving Northwest for several times during the past 5 years but they never decided to do so - even if it seemed to be the better alternative in the past. Northwest should be happy about having a strong and loyal partner like KLM.

Emile,

What facts lead you to the conclusion that NWA would be leaving KLM or the reverse KLM leaving NWA?

p.s eurowings gone
braathens wants to stop.
martinair ist,n pleased
klm uk nothing left ( you pay for klm uk and fly with buzz to stansted amsterdam sometimes is that a joke )
klm alps almost dead.

Emile,
The reasons you gave are things that KLM is doing or not doing. What I asked is, do you have any factual information that NWA is looking at dropping KLM or is that what you think might happen? NWA makes hundreds of millions of dollars a year from the KLM alliance as does KLM. It can always be improved but it the most successful alliance profitwise.

KLM and NWA agreed a couple years ago to a firm 10 years (about 7 or 8 remaining now) for the alliance. NW and KL are both extremely pleased with the alliance and are enjoying its profits.

I don't think NWA/KLM would be apart, they will stay, Continental/NWA has joined alliance.

Please dont talk Negative about any carriers. I loves KLM and it company. NWA/KLM are still partners.

(For those who don't know what my User Name stands for... here it is British Airways Executive Club Triple 7, Im a Frequent Flyer Passenger for British Airways Since 1996, I also have 1 for KLM/NWA, & American)

P.S. I am planning a 3rd trip to ISRAEL this time of year around May 15, 2001 for 3 months stay.

Unsure of the airlines, Maybe KLM, BA, CO, DL, AC, LH, AF..... I dont know which carrier(s) will meet my needs when I fly. Hopefully 1 of them will be 1 of my needs for the trip.

August/Sept 1993:
I flew Royal Jordanian to JORDAN and drove to ISRAEL.

Sept/Oct 1996:
I flew British Airways to ISRAEL with connection in London Gatwick.

May/Aug 2001:
I will fly to ISRAEL this year for 3 months stay, unsure of carrier selections.

The stickers are gone because a new Wings logo has been designed but not implemented yet. How can you say NWA is expanding in Europe faster than KLM? Everything NWA and KLM do from the US to Europe is a joint effort. An example is the new MIA-AMS flight. It will be flown by NWA but it makes no difference as both airlines split the proceeds. This is true of every flight from North America to Europe, regardless of whether it is flown by NWA or KLM.

Please use proper English when posting. Typing mistakes and spelling errors left aside, one would think basic grammar is a minimum.

Regardless, this is another topic that seems to consist of not much more than thin air and users making assumptions all over the place. While I won't get into that any further, the language thing does tend to bug me, for all it's worth. I would like to think I'm not the only one holding that opinion...

Best regards,

TriStar.

Emile,
Yes KLM did lose a few passengers to the Northwest -Alitalia codeshare. A very few. KLM still makes hundreds of millions of dollars fron the NWA alliance. Again I ask, do you have any facts to back up the contention that either NWA or KLM is unhappy with the alliance? I don't mean what you think bit what the two companies think or have announced.

Actually the improved and implemented agreement between NW and Alitalia should have been a first step towards a new alliance between AZ and KLM but now it seems that this is not going to happen anymore.
Alitalia have decided to be out of any major alliance until 2004 while improving codeshare agreements with many carriers. Northwest seems to be their favourite North American partner but they could switch it to Delta if the new management would like to join Skyteam.
Infact it seems that the agreement between CO and AZ is about to stop and Alitalia will replace CO flights with its own, not with NW.

By the Way, the NW/KLM alliance seems to be the only one doing well. It certainly is the oldest one and they just need to expand it to other carriers. The most likely to join are CO and MH

Ciao

Just to clear up some things with KL's "partners"

Buzz-KLM will probably sell Buzz if they don't acquire Go which looks to be the case. They are backing out of the low-cost airline within an airline idea like BA. They are also loosing money so it is a positive step. And they don't loose any connecting pax

Martinair-KL is trying to fully acquire Martinair and transfer all operations to Cargo. This could very well happen if they get aproval from the govt.

Transavia- will take control of all charter operations including ones served by Marinair. The also started Basiq air as a sub airline to compete with EasyJet.

KLMuk-will be receiving new RJ's in a short time to replace the Fokker's and service and frequencies have only been increasing and they remain a very essential part of KLM's overall operations and provide many transfer pax. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them.

KLMexcel- is also doing very well and has no plans to cut back on service.

KLMalps- I couldn't tell you since not much is going on so I'm not sure why you think its almost dead.

As for Eurowings and Braathens. Nothing is for sure and it still looks like Braathens will stay connected with KL. And if they don't its not a major loss because neither party was greatly benefitting from the alliance.

As for the EU alliances. Who is making money as a private non -nationally owned airline? not AF or AZ. KL. They are doing very well with there current partnership. Pax loads to the US and Asia are as high as they have ever been and unless you have some concrete evidence that KL is loosing any pax to NW/AZ alliance I would have to disagree with you. NW benefits from there flights from AMS as much if not more then Italy.

NW and KL are so integrated that I don't see any breakup in the near or far future if anything the additon of more partners. Maybe AZ when they privatize or CO if they work things out with NW.

TriStar,

Your name's obviously more positive than your attitude. I am sure anyone's English is better than your German, French or Arabic. This is an international forum, so... cool down and try to understand what they say. Be nice and tolerant.

The NW/KL Worldwide Reliability stickers were removed for the launch of the Wings alliance which has been delayed mostly I think due to NW trying to solve its mechanics labor contract.

Wings Alliance would be:

Northwest
Continental
KLM
Malaysia
Japan Air System
Jet Airways
Hopefully Alitalia
Hopefully Alaska Airlines
Hopefully Hawaiin

No airlines left? May I name two interesting would be KLM parners:

- Air Europa (more as the Iberia take over won't happen)

- Air Europe Italy (currently SAirGroup but a very good alternative for AZ).

- any other ex-SAirGroup airline who want to leave (or has to)

Well, my Arabic, maybe... Danke and merci beaucoup for the concern, anyway.

At any rate, I thought I had as much a right to make an observation as anyone else. Maybe I was sensitive when going through the thread. I tend to get like that when people appear to be thrashing airlines for no apparent reason.
Again, since I don't feel like getting into that side of this thread, all I meant to say is correct grammar and (if possible) spelling makes communicating a lot easier, and it certainly facilitates correct understanding and interpretation of what is being said. That's all. If you feel such a statement is too harsh, then I'm sorry.

I think I will now mail the Administrator and kindly request the removal of all Forum rules referring to spelling and grammar... I don't know what he was thinking when he included those. (If you catch my drift.)

Best regards,

TriStar.

Emile: if you said that NW is leaving KLM because some NW's jet has no KLM-NWA sticker, it's totally wrong.

Some AN/NZ/SQ's jet don't have Star sticker on it. Does this means that these 3 will leave Star Alliance?
