Virgin And BA To Run UK ATC

Wed Mar 28, 2001 7:01 pm

British Airways and Virgin have teamed up to form a consortium to run the UK ATC. This consortium, called the Airline Group, will gain a 46% stake in the system.

Also in this consortium are Easyjet and British Midland.

The part-privatisation of UK ATC is expected to increase efficiency and delays, as well as improving on safety-related issues.

I am quoting from an article in today's Daily Express, but other newspapers should cover this, as well as the internet.

Find it hard to believe that BA & Virgin would do anything together. They are the worst of enemys.

"The part-privatisation of UK ATC is expected to increase efficiency and delays, as well as improving on safety-related issues. "

... just like it did for the UK rail service.

Cheers,

This still hasn't pleased UK ATC'ers, if I am to believe their comments on pprune. Their opinion is that the options ranged from the bad, to the worst, and it was all a question of choosing the "less bad" option.

One ATC ppruner has said that an anonymous airline (part of the above consortium) has already questioned the need to have three radar controllers at an anonymous location during the late/early hours, when mainly only cargo a/c ply the UK skies at these times.

I thought the Government's choice was the sensible one, but ATC'ers are still keeping their "powder bone dry", meaning they have not ruled out strikes completely, in the future.

Maybe I am naive in thinking that TAG's claims to run for no profits are well and true. Or are UK ATC'ers being overly paranoid??

Time will tell!
