Would you like a pay increase of 30%-60% without working more or even without taking more responsibility in your job?
Living in reality everyone would say its impossible.
Not so the pilots of Lufthansa. This morning they went on strike for a few hours (I hope they don´t repeat it because I´ll fly with them tomorrow).
The pilots claim they agreed in pay decreases and pay increase deferrals when the airline was down in the early 90s, but now LH is one of the most profitable airlines in the world for years already and the pilots say its time to pay back now.
Currently a 747 Captain of LH receives about $10.000, a young A320-Copilot only about $3000 (and he has to pay back a credit of $50.000 for the education/license that LH is not paying).
Airlines like CX pay a lot more, I´ve heard. But on the other hand the driver of a german ICE-Fast-train with more people on board than a Jumbo-jet only gets about $2.200 a month.
What do you think? If the pilots would succeed a senior LH-747 captain would get a fantastic salary of more than $200.000 a year with all extras! I guess at least one problem LH has would be solved immiadetely: Not having enough youngsters to become pilot.
