Air Caraibes Crash In St. Barthelemy

Thu Mar 29, 2001 3:32 pm

On Saturday 24 March 2001 an Air Caraibes De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter crashed on the French island of St. Barthelemy. The plane was approaching the small airport on St. Barts after a 5-minute flight from St. Maarten when it experienced mechanical failure and crashed into a house. All 19 on board the plane (17 pax, 2 crew) were killed, as was an occupant of the house. This is thus the worst airline accident in the Caribbean for the last 5 years (since the Puerto Plata 757 crash).

A sad day indeed for the French Caribbean.
