Delta Pilots

Fri Mar 30, 2001 10:02 am

Hey everyone, I wanted to ask if it was true that one of the demands that Delta pilots are making is that they have higher priority over their fellow employees; for them and their families when traveling as an NRSA? My mom told me this, and it was the first I heard of it, so can someone confirm this?

Anyway, i was completely appauled when she told me this. Working for delta should be considered a team effort, and one group of employees shouldnt feel as if they are apart of a higher class among the employees. I know that CSA's and Flight Attendants have lost complete respect for Deltas greedy, "wanna be regarded as god" like pilots. They are willing to risk the jobs of their fellow employees just out of their greediness.... okay im getting over my head, i could argue this for days, and never be satisfied with the pilots arguments. So anyway I was just wondering if the NRSA benefits thing is true, and what your opinions are about it.

I'm not sure who started that rumor but it's not true.

Historically, during each round of contract negotiations, sometimes the powers that be in management find interesting ways to dilute any type of employee support they have for the pilots.

This rumor was generated to erode that support. In light of the breaking news about the 30-day "cooling-off" period starting, standby by for more and crazier rumors. Feel free to drop me an email and I'll let you know if the latest "hot" rumor has got merit or not!  Smile

However, it does raise an interesting idea. Since we have lower ticket prices than most other airlines and then the last few empty seats, a good idea would be to give ALL full-time employees positive space passes for their ___primary___ vacation, as long as a seat is available say, two weeks prior to vacation. As you've seen it's tremendously difficult to non-rev anywhere for vacation.

Seriously, on our pilot's only website we track daily rumors, research them and bring them to light. There was one in circulation about how we wanted to cut employees at MCO's wages by 33% I have a lot of good friends that I made when I was based in MCO and luckily no one fell for it. It was funny, nonetheless.

But no, ALPA hasn't asked for that.

Also, almost 100% of the FA's and most of the other employees I've talked to are completely behind us. Usually, the contractural improvements that we win after a new contract always trickle down to all of the employee groups. (thanks, guys!)

Am I a god? Nope. I'm pretty much a normal Joe Schmoe like everyone else.

First of all, Delta's pilots are not greedy. Why would you think this? Demanding the same wages as your peers at other airlines is completely fair. The pilots do not want to be regarded as god, they just want fair pay for the hard work that they do for the company.

If the CSAs and flight attendants are jealous, then they should become pilots. Only then will they know that they are worth 10 times more than Delta can ever pay them!
