Does anyone know if they will be absorbed into Air2000 or wil there be a rebrand of both (Considering that Air2000 is now a somewhat 'out of date' name)? Will AMM/DP take on Virgin Sun's A320's and 321's?

I think it's Virgin Atlantic that are going to use All business A320's(?) on LHR-JFK type routes.

Servisair it's quite difficult for an A320 to fly to New york!!!And besides that someone would definitely prefer to travel Business class with a 747 than an A320

If you think that a A320 in an all business config would probably have 40-50 seats, that would probably make 80 bags max. So what are you going to do with the rest of the hold space? Fill it with fuel maybe? this would give the A/C the extra range needed to fly MAN-JFK non-stop. And if you think that Sabre Airways can fly a 737-800 with 180 punters+bags non-stop to Eygpt from Manchester,uk. Then surely an A320 with extra fuel capacity could make LHR-JKF.

Someone please correct me if i'm make a stupid suggestion here!

I had read that they were going to use aircraft like the Global Express, not A320's. They said they didn't want to carry more than 18 passengers at once. The Global Express can fly LHR-JFK no problem.

Well, im not to suprised to see VIR go. I think Branson is getting to big for his boots and there is simply to much competition in the UK charter market, and fighting for business against large, established airlines such as Britannia, Monarch, Airtours, Air 2000, JMC to name but a few somnething has to give, and that something was VIR.

Ive seen this happening for a long time, its been announced that they where loosing profits and where stopping all winter flying.
as LGW said, the UK charter market is tightly packed, something has to slip.

What did First Choice buy?

The planes, routes, infrastructure, brand name, employees etc...?

Be cool to see First Choice operate with the Virgin brand, but I doubt it, Branson isn't keen on leasing rights for the Virgin name. Remember JetBlue/Virgin America?

JMC ??? Not what I'd call established and given their record it was hardly surprising RB thought he could do better and decided to have a go...

To be fair, JMC took over caledonian, a challenge in itself, and all the expertise from flying colours (which became well established in its short life) was simply rebranded under the name JMC. I've flown with them and they seem pretty well established and would certainly rate them alongside Monarch, Britannia, Air2000. Airtours? Well, I wonder if you can call these "well" established! Anyway, I have heard that JMC has gone downhill at times. Maybe the method of running a holiday company and airline under the same name just doesn't work as well? (eg Virgin Sun, Airtours, JMC). Just some of my thoughts  Insane

Make sure your not getting "Virgin Sun" confused with "Virgin Atlantic". If your on VS then you got nothing to worry about as its a totally separate airline. If your on VIR (Dunno if they fly to athens?) then i presume your flight will still run as normal depending on when your scheduled to depart, but best to check i'd say. A321? If your on VS then yeah presume you'll fly that as this is the aircraft they run on the LGW-ATH route I think. Someone else is bound to have more info!

The vhole Virgin Sun operation will be closed at the end of the Summer, First Choice will not use the Virgin brand on any of their holidays - they didn't buy the name, just the Virgin Sun business. The Virgin Sun pilots are all employed by Virgin Atlantic and will go back to the parent company, the aircraft will be returned to their lessors.

First Choice bought the Virgin Sun operation for the airlines' valuable slots at Gatwick and Manchester which will be used to allow Air 2000 to expand - the slots are the only things that will be retained from the company.

Virgin Sun's sale and subsequent closure had nothing to do with problems with the airline and competition from other holiday airlines, but because the tour operator had problems securing allocations of hotel rooms because they were too small and didn't have the buying power of the huge European tour-operating groups - this meant the company was never going to realise it's full potential and the operation was sold.
