Renton, Everett And Boeing Field

Mon Apr 02, 2001 6:05 am

Can some one explain what each of these airports is used for by Boeing? I know that the Renton facility produces the B737 and B757 (although I seem to remember some of the B737 being moved to Long Beach at some point). But what do Everett and Boeing Field each take care of. I've seen photos of both B747 and B777 at each of the two airports.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

737s and 757s are built in Renton and their test flights and deliveries are done at Boeing Field.

767/747/777s are built, tested, and delivered from Paine Field in Everett.

717s are built, tested, and delivered from Long Beech.

At some point in the 1960s all Boeing production was done at BFI. I am pretty sure that 737 final assembly did take place at Boeing Field. I do not remember when they began assembly over in Renton though, BFI was getting crowded. And of course assembly at Everett started with the 747 program.

Cool, thanks for the responce. Can you get a tour of their facilities at these airports? And if so, are you allowed to take photos?

As far as I know, public tours are available only at Everett. Renton and Boeing Field might -repeat might- be possible by special arrangement.

I believe the old BFI plant was actually across the street (E Marginal Way) from BFI. Its still standing and has some kind of work going on inside. If you go to the north end of BFI, though, you can see the whole range of Boeing planes sometimes, from the 717-777 parked with liverys from all over the world. Great stuff....

Actually, through most of the 1960s Renton was the primary production plant for Boeing. Renton was used as the main production plant for the 707s and 727s. The 737s were initially built at BFI but were transfered to Renton in 1970 after the first 271 737s were built at BFI.
