Maple Leaf Airlines?!

This is really funny. Taipei's CKS website did this mistake for the flight arrival in English.

Check the row with AC017. Carefully look at the left.

Air Canada became Maple Leaf Airlines.

BTW, it's already April 2 in Taipei, so I don't believe its another April's Fool Joke

Well, technically they are correct since there is a big maple leaf on the tail  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I guess it is the confusion re: AC/CP becoming one.

Well, as u know, AC was tranlated as Maple Leaf Airlines in Chinese before acquiring Canadian Airlines. So Maple Leaf Airlines was actually the official name for AC since Canadian already took the name of "CANADA AIRLINES" and there is no diff in Chinese when translating both "Air" Canada or Canadian "Airlines". But actually I found that out long few months ago, and can only saythat whoever is responsible for that site is either stupid or doing this on purpose because people are more familiar with that name in Taiwan. Oh well..  Smile

I remember some radio station was giving out TPE-YVR tickets and every DJ said "canada airlines" and made no mention of the maple leaf name. Weird.

Anyone know if Air Canada made a "translated" name switch? They might as well take up CP's chinese name.

Does anyone remember that book by Arthur Hailey called Runway Zero-Eight? It was where the pilots on a commercial airliner and many of the passengers got food poisoning and the flight attendant and a passenger had to land the plane. I think the fictional name of the airline in this book was called Maple Leaf Airlines. Good book, btw and I think it was made into a movie. Lois Nettleton played the flight attendant (actually, stewardess, as the story was supposed to have taken place in the late 50's/early 60's).

First when Air Canada entered the HKG market they name themselves in Chinese "Canada National Airline" (加拿大國家航空公司 Big grin but later it was too confusing as people often think Canadian Airlines (translated into Chinese as Canada Airlines 加拿大航空公司 -- often abbriviated to "Can Air" "加航") is the same as Air Canada, so they changed their name into 加拿大楓葉航空公司 (Canada Maple Leaf Airlines).
But following the merger between Air Canada and Canadi>n Airlines, they took up Canadi>n's Chinese name and called themselves "Air Canada, 加拿大航空公司"
