As you may know, there are rumours saying that UAL might order aircraft with GE Engines. Can anyone confirm this?
I thought UAL is loyal to Pratt and Whitney and they love P&W engines. Why go for GE Engines?
Do you guys think they will stick with P&W?
Hope to hear from you soon!
United Airlines as well as any other airline is really not that loyal to one company for anything. The GE engines on the 737 are the most reliable in the fleet.
While United Airlines might really love PW engines, the truth of the matter is that they will order what ever type of engines that either come on a plane that they want, or that meets their standards.
f you noticed after the Flt 232 Sioux City DC-10 accident involving a GE CF6, United has ordered on new Boeing and Airbus aircraft P&W and IAE engines? The only new aircraft with GE engines that United has ordered were CRJs for their Express division.
United did not order the CRJ... their express carriers did with their cash...and their engine shop.
UA is on very good terms with GE. That crash could have been on Pratts or RR engines. As said above, they will order engines that either suite there needs, or that come with the plane. I know that United is considering other varients of the 777. They will have to go with the GE if they order that. Tedski...mark my words, "It's a matter of time before we see GE engines on future 777 orders at United."
Also...according to your logic about SUX accident, then why would UA order the 747 after the cargo door ripped off of one, and why would they order 737s after one had an accecdent resulting in a crash at COS?
The matter is simple...they will order what suites there needs, and if they want more 777s, they are going to have to go with the GE engines.
