#1 In Latin America: Still AA?

Fri Apr 06, 2001 6:57 am

Hello friends,

Just taking a general poll -- is AA still #1 in the Latin America market? (as far as North American carriers go?) I know that DL is pushing more into that market. What do you think?

To me, it seems that AA still holds the prize as the carrier with the most flights, serving the most cities, in the most countries in Latin/Central American and the Caribbean.

Much love,

I believe you are correct on that one, although it may take further research.

Without a doubt. I believe CO would be second.

I think the rankings are:
1. AA
2. CO
3. DL
4. UA

AA is the leader , Continental comes in a strong second and Delta is third with UAL coming in fourth. It will take a great deal of expanding for CO to come even close to the presence that AA has in Latin America .

Are you kidding? No one is even close to American in Latin America. They are even gaining ground. The last routes that the DOT awarded were to Rio where American got seven new flights a week from New York. They beat out Delta and CAL for that route.

American est numero uno!!!!!!!!

American es Numero Uno to Latin America but service wise it woud be numero Diez . They have the largest presence but airlines like CO are providing better services to Latin AMerica to see if they can eat a chunck of the market that AA has at the moment . Continental has two great hubs to expand into Latin America, Newark and Houston but hey must be very aggressive .

In terms of profitability, DL is #1 but is #4 in market share. According to reports released to DL employees.

When did DL overtake UAL?

It's sad... UAL's most recent monthly traffic figures show less than 500m RPMs to LatAm.

Anyone know what DL's are? I'd be surprised if it's more than 500m RPMS!

AA is # 1 originally the route authority belonged to Braniff. But when they went under it went to Eastern. Then when they went under the rights to South America were sold to AA. I'm quite surprided that UAL is on the bottom since their SA routes went mostly to UAL and some went to DL.

VirginA340, most of the routes originally belonged to Panagra, which were then sold to Braniff when W.R. Grace decided to end its relationship with Pan American, etc. etc. Braniff's own original routes to South America were much more limited.
