In short, no. At least not any time soon. Boeing has consistantly downplayed the market need for Super-Jumbo type planes. It's uncertain how big of a market there will be, and the consensus seems to be that Airbus is taking a big risk by developing the 380 at a cos of $11 Billion or so. They claim to have 66 orders or so at this point, and they'll need more. Boeing WAS offering a further stretched version of the 747, but they seem to have effectively abandoned that when they announced that R&D resources would be focused on the new mach 0.95 plane. THe fact that they had received a total of ZERO orders for the 747X was undoubtedly a factor! If you ask me, that seems like a bigger gamble than even the 380!
In any case, if Boeing does eventually develop a full double-decker, we won't likely see it for a long, long time. (In less they just come up with something that is based on a 747 with the top deck stretched even further back. I don't know my aerospace engineering very well, but my impression is that we won't be seeing anything like THAT.)

Lol, I didn't fully put the question right....I meant a 747 with 2 full floors....not like the normal 747-400, I know that exists...also thanks to Jean Leloup (the wolf) for the reply

Heh Heh

I was thinking of it, too. But I figured I'd be nice and not condescending!  Smile I'm sure he/she knows about the 747!

p.s. I don't like the 747, so here's an ugly one. (At YMX, no less!)

Jean why don't you like the 747? I think inside it looks awesome, especially the new ones....they have tv's in the economy class (and in Malaysian Airlines you can also choose from 3-4 movies and play video games with it in economy class) I've been in it once....it's awesome. The first class is also one of the best ever!

Jean,

I think you're the only one I've seen on these forums who doesn't like the 747.

Haha.
Well, probably. I'm a bit of an odd duck. Honestly, I don't think that there's anything wrong with it, and I admire it for all it's done... And it's amazing that after 30 or so years, it's still the biggest thing flying! But... I'm pretty young, and I didn't start getting into planes until a few years ago, around the time the 777 came out. AS far as long range widebodies, I much prefer it. Also, as far as 4-Engine widebodies, for that matter, I really like the A340. So... nothing against the plane, I know it really rocks. But, being really past it's prime, I think, it's never really appealed to me in the time that I've been interested in planes. No disrespect intended though, and i do enjoy watching them land, big as they are!

Take Care

Don't make fun of him. I think what he means is.......... 2 full decks.

I think so. In let's say 10 to 15 years time.

They will still carry on with their B 747 for at least 30 years, if not longer.

I think Boeing will get around to it in the form of the flying wing/blended wing design...but not until after they start to clean up monetarily with the near supersonic 787.

I don't think people read this topic well enough.

* 6 times someone has said " They allready have, it's called the 747 ".

* There are 16 replies , and in the 5th, Lukoni99 clearly says what he actually meant to ask.

Hmmmm.

There Have Been At Least 2

Tue Apr 10, 2001 2:42 am

Actually the 747 is their 2nd two floor aircraft. at least that I am aware of.

You forget about the Boeing 377.

In that case the upper deck was the main deck and the lower deck was the lounge/bar.
