Mallorca

Fri Apr 06, 2001 9:48 pm

Hello,

I am soon going to Mallorca and will stay at one hotel very near the airport.
I want to take a lot of photographs when I am there so I wonder if somebody could tell me some nice spotting places, what airlines/aircrafts on different days etc.
I really appreciate if somebody can give me some information. Thanks by now.

Regards

I was at Palma de Mallorca last year. Dont know of any dedicated viewing terrace though, but there is a large variety of a/c which can be seen from airside. Tuesday/Friday/Saturdays is when you can see the most British a/c. Dont know about other days but I think Monday could be one of the main German days.

In fact Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the best days to see German aircraft. Best regards,

See if there is a 990 there. Perhaps there is one left sitting around someplace. Photo it and desplay it here. You'll probably get some interest...

OK Well when I was there on a Monday night to fly back to Newcastle, the bit was full with German a/c. LTU A330,B757,Condor B757, Air Berlin, Hapag Lloyd etc

Also at PMI you may see a couple of An124 a/c as I saw 3 sitting next to each other when there.

You can see a lot of german aircraft on every day.

Some airlines have a daily shuttle service from much german airports to PMI (ex CGN = daily 19.50 pm - Air Berlin B738)

On the road to the airport, you pass the cargo center. Often you can see DHL aircraft there.

Early in the morning during the dawn, you can see a lot of aircraft of Air Europa, parking along one side of the terminal.

Palma Airport offers an excellent variety of aircraft, used to live there!

German flights definitely are the most active, as stated before daily shuttle flights for the tourists and increasingly ex-pats operate. Scandanavian, UK and Dutch flights are also busy but more on certain days. PMI is also very much a 24 hour operation.

The terminal has no views except to departing passengers ater immigration, and then limited due to the very badly designed new terminal !

There are also now a lot of eastern european charter flights, so lots of variety on aircraft types.

The best vieing spot for viewing is from C'an Pastilla, just before entering the slip road for the airport from the motorway, there is an exit for the town. you will be right underneath the flight path...Literally!

There is also a road to the side of the main runway, but this looks like a finca and apparently you will be moved away, PMI is also a military base!
