Sat Apr 07, 2001 7:15 pm

Why dont Middle Eastern carriers operate to China? is it becuase of Communism? the only two Arab airlines Gulf Air and Emirates fly to Hong Kong and not to the mainland, Saudi Arabian Airlines has cargo flights to Taipei, I know Turkish Airlines and Iran Air fly to China but theyre not Arab, and what about Chinese carries to the Middle East how many fly there Smile

Yes, its true. Many middle eastern carriers do not fly to China. Probably because the gulf carriers do not have a market for pax to the Gulf or vice versa. Also, China is known to be more of a cargo destination.

Its funny though. Once I flew from Manchester to Karachi on Gulf Air and the number of Chinese paxs that were on board a gulf carrier amazed me. Out of the 200 passengers in economy about 20 must have been Chinese.

I think, yes, middle eastern carriers should fly to China and Japan. Although they do fly to singapore, hong kong, bangkok. So why not China !

Air China flies Beijing-Karachi-Kuwait with a B767................ hey airmale has Aeroflot stopped flying to KHI suddenly??? ..... i was checking schedules and no Aeroflot flights seem to show up on KHI-SVO. That would be sad to loose yet another airline.

Airmale,

Who would the passengers be? The vast majority of passengers traveling from Asia to the Middle East are workers.
AFAIK, there aren’t very many Chinese or Japanese laborers in the ME, hence no traffic!

KHI747 I have no idea about SU quitting KHI if they have then its sad, what about their LHE service? Chinese carriers that have flown Middle East services in the past are as follows;

Air China to Jeddah
China Airlines to Dubai and Jeddah
Mandrin Airlines to Abu Dhabi
China Eastern Airlines to Bahrain

presently;

Air China to Kuwait
EVA Air to Dubai
China Southern Airlines to Sharjah

Can any one here confirm if China Airlines fly to Abu Dhabi now, which was previously served by their subsidiary Mandrin Confused

p.s any other past/present routes?

Middle Eastern airlines flying to China are:

El Al - TLV-BJS 2 x weekly 767
El Al - TLV-HKG 2 x weekly 777

Iran Air - THR-BJS 1 x weekly 74L (continues to Tokyo)

Turkish Airlines - IST-BJS 3 x weekly A340
Turkish Airlines - IST-SHA 3 x weekly
Turkish Airlines - IST-HKG 2 x weekly A340

Emirates - DXB-HKG 10 x weekly A330/777

Gulf Air - AUH-HKG 2 x weekly A340
Gulf Air - BAH-HKG 3 x weekly A340

Chinese airlines to the Middle East

Air China - BJS-KWI 1 x weekly 767

China Southern - BJS-SHJ 3 x weekly 757

---------

Aeroflot has ceased all service to Pakistan....I quote:

"Elsewhere the airline plans to stop regular flights to a number of destinations including Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Peru, continuing the plan of retrenchment on the flag carrier's international destinations started last year. Aeroflot's representative offices will remain open in these countries. The airline has said that if traffic improves, routes will be reopened, though given the airline's commitment to the Skyteam alliance and the much-vaunted strategy of focussing on the Russian and CIS markets, this would seem an unlikely scenario."

This was as part of the announcement of this years summer schedules.

-------

China Airlines flies 4 times weekly with MD-11s on the TPE-AUH routing.

-------

That's about all I can come up with

Cheers

Well, I believe if Chinese and Middle Eastern Airlines do want to fly to China and vice versa, they could always land on low fare, Karachi Intl., a perfect place to get some more pax. or they could stop at Singapore or Bangkok which is fare better than Karachi in terms of traffic.
