From the Straits Times Singapore:
UNITED Airlines' (UA) website was hacked into on the same day that Singapore Airlines' (SIA) was hit.
A hacker calling himself 'InX of WoH' claims to have defaced both UA's Netherlands website at www.unitedairlines.nl and SIA's online-ticketing site.
'We believe that this is a random act of vandalism,' a UA spokesman told The Straits Times.
Mr Tan Beng Soon, a security consultant with Baltimore Technologies, suspects the attacks were not targeted at the companies.
Rather, they could have been directed at the operating system behind the computer servers hosting the websites, he said.
According to www.attrition.org, a site which documents defacements worldwide, messages by InX at the two airlines' websites said: 'Burn your NT box, and get Linux.'
Microsoft's NT is one of the main operating systems used by businesses while Linux is a rival that offers its system for free.
A check on the attrition.org website shows that WoH could be a group of hackers who call themselves World Of Hell.
The group may also have defaced Xerox and Packard Bell's websites a few days ago.
An SIA spokesman confirmed that its website www.singaporeair.com.sg was defaced between 4.15 pm and 4.30 pm on Sunday.
SIA has filed a police report, she said.
She added that the website will remain inaccessible to the public until it has determined how its security system was compromised.
Meanwhile, UA's website was up and running at press time.
