Media/Film Airliner Mistakes

Wed Apr 11, 2001 3:24 am

GF-A330 had an interesting post pertaining to advertising. Along the same lines, I wonder what are some of the more glaring errors on television or film that you have seen. An example would be last week VH1 in their "Behind the Music" series had John Travolta rushing to be with his ill girlfriend in 1977. The airliner used in the 3 second clip was a 737-400, which wasn't produced for several more years. I'm not talking about gags like the prop sound on the "Airplane" 707 or fantasies like the Air Force One escape hatch, but segments put in films that just appear to be the producers using the first aircraft footage they could find.

P.S. I'm sorry if this subject's been done before, I did

I had a topic like this a month or two back, but alot has changed since then.  Smile

I know of a bunch of these mistakes, but I'm too tired to post any right now. I'm sure someone else will though.

A noticed a couple of mistakes made in the Pierce Brosnan film, "A Tailor in Panama" involving the featured airline of Panama, Copa Airlines. For example at the beginning of the movie there is a cabin shot with Brosnan inside. Here is the mistake, the seats are red, but Copa has never had red seats in their cabins. Another misperception in the film is when one of the characters travels to Washington DC on Copa, but Copa in real life still has no route to DC. Something else that seem unrealistic was that Brosnan traveled to Panama City from London on a Copa 737!!

Oh well, who said movies had to be accurate.
