B767-400ER Winglets

Sun May 16, 1999 9:38 am

I just bought a book (copyright 1999) today that has a computer generated image of a B767-400ER in it. This image has small verticle (or near verticle) winglets. Could anyone please explain this?

What book was it? I would like to purchace one.
I love talk about future airliners.
They will be put on. At least NOW it will be easier to distinguish a 767 from others.

I think what you are saying are raked tips, they are similar devices to winglets but has better performance. even with these add-ons for 767-400, A330-200 is still the winner.

In the image, it has clearly defined verticle winglets.

The 767-400 don't have vertical winglets.

But have a wing extension that has 2x the swep then the wing.

OK, I am pretty sure I'm not going crazy, but in this picture, IT HAS VERTICLE WINGLETS. :-)

The picutre you have may be slightly dated. Boeing was going to put winglets on the 764, but before final design configuration was set, they decided to instead go with a highly swept wingtip extension. This peice really can't be called a winglet, as it does not rise vertically from the wng surface. You may want to look at the depictions on the Boeing website for a better idea.

Thanks Gordon, I guess I shouldn't have assumed that the picture was up to date even though the book is new.
