New TWA 717's

Sun Apr 15, 2001 3:02 pm

Boeing gave 4 717s to TWA on 4/12 in TWA colors. Why not AA colors?

Because all four had been painted for quite some time. It will be up to AA to foot that bill when the time arrives.

Those Four 717s.

Well, if you'll look in the photo database, you can find some pix. Those planes have been flying around on 'test' flights for several months. Boeing was waiting for something from Trans World. Hmmm, wonder what it was.... must have been the RENT!!! It's true, TW stopped paying the bill, so Boeing stopped delivering the planes. It wasn't an ugly thing, it was understood. So those four sat around for quite awhile.

I can't wait to see the first 717 in AA colors.

When TWA filed for bankruptcy on January 11, they were awarded a 60 day moratorium on lease payments to creditors, after which they had to clear their outstandings or else have the property repossesed. Accordingly, Boeing chose to defer delivery of these aircraft until after March 10 to ensure that sufficient Debtor in Possesion financing was in place to enable TWA to make the payments on the aircraft.

TWA 717s will be deivered in TWA colors until further notice. One 717 N420TW is on the flight ramp now and N2421A just came out of the paint shop in full TWA colors, according to my sources in the paint shop no plans have been made yet to paint a 717 in AA markings, but I will be notified when the first one is due in. TWA will operate as TWA LLC an AA subsidary until at least January 2002, possibly 2003 from what my sources say at AA.
Hope this helps.
