"...With three major airlines set to desert Kuala Lumpur's new Sepang airport this month the Malaysian showpiece has received a boost from the Middle East and China.
Qatar Airways is planning to inaugurate three flights a week to KLIA and Air China is studying the market with a view to starting services.
The country's Tourism Minister, Abdul Kadir Shiek Fadzir, told a press conference that he has met with Qatar Airways representives and they had indicated their interest.
Air China will look into the possibility of flying to Kuala Lumpur if the market is profitable, according to the carrier's supervisor for marketing development, Zhang Yue. The State-owned airline pulled out of Kuala Lumpur several years ago citing 'strategic reasons'.
The carrier will need government permission before any new flights go ahead. At the moment China Southern is the only other airline from the People's Republic flying to KLIA.
British Airways, Aeroflot and Japan's ANA are dropping services at Sepang this month. The airport has also seen the departure of major players such Qantas, Lufthansa and Ansett Australia...."
