Qantas Delays Delivery of A330s Until Nov. 2002, Flight Says
By Desmond Hutton
Sydney, April 16 (Bloomberg) -- Qantas Airways Ltd. is delaying the start of delivery of its 13 Airbus Industrie A330 aircraft until November 2002, industry magazine Flight International reported.
Australia's biggest carrier was originally to begin taking delivery of the twin-engine aircraft next April, the report said without citing sources or the cause of the delay.
The airline last month warned that its earnings for the rest of the business year ending in June would be ``significantly impacted'' from increased price competition on domestic routes and a weaker Australian dollar.
The company is also hoping the delay will let it take advantage of new cockpit display technology to be introduced on the new A340-600 in June 2002, that includes flat-panel digital displays for the altitude and airspeed, rather than the analogue devices now in use, the report said.
