Qantas Delays A330 Deliveries!

Qantas Delays Delivery of A330s Until Nov. 2002, Flight Says
By Desmond Hutton

Sydney, April 16 (Bloomberg) -- Qantas Airways Ltd. is delaying the start of delivery of its 13 Airbus Industrie A330 aircraft until November 2002, industry magazine Flight International reported.

Australia's biggest carrier was originally to begin taking delivery of the twin-engine aircraft next April, the report said without citing sources or the cause of the delay.

The airline last month warned that its earnings for the rest of the business year ending in June would be ``significantly impacted'' from increased price competition on domestic routes and a weaker Australian dollar.

The company is also hoping the delay will let it take advantage of new cockpit display technology to be introduced on the new A340-600 in June 2002, that includes flat-panel digital displays for the altitude and airspeed, rather than the analogue devices now in use, the report said.

Maybe they're considering purchasing the B767-400 instead of the A330.

What is Qantas thinking? I understand that they would want to take advantage of new cockpit technology, but this simply isn't making since. Airbus has the technology ready, so shouldn't they be able to implement it into the A330 early, simliar to Boeing doing this with the 767-300 before the 767-400 was even flying? With the news that Qantas is considering the 767-400ER, what are they thinking by buying both? Besides range and the great price Airbus gave them, something really smells fishy.

Maybe they'll convince poor little incompetent Ansett to take up the A330 order instead.

Glad I'm not an airline employee in Australia!

This is old news!
They are keeping the A330's. The first two have been delayed slightly thats all.

The latest schedule of new aircraft deliveries to QF:

A330-200 = NOV02, JAN03, FEB03, APR03, JUN03, JUN03, AUG03

A330-300 = OCT03, NOV03, MAY04, JUN04, SEP04, MAY05.

For those interested the latest schedule for the delivery of the A380's is as follows:

A380-800= OCT06, NOV06, MAR07, JUN07, JUL07, OCT07, MAR08, MAR08, JUL08, OCT08, MAR09 JUN09

744LR deliveries:
744LR = NOV02, DEC02, JUL03, JUL04, JUL04, JUL05

I have heard from a few contacts that they (the first two A330's) have been delayed because apparently Qantas were going to takeover a cancelled order from another airline for the first two A332's. But it has been decided that it is to much extra work and money required to change engineering differences and was not worth the bother and cost. So they are waiting a bit longer for the first A332 as shown in the above schedule.

The A380 will take flight in the first quater of 2006, with first delivery to Singapore Airlines in the second quarter. If all goes to plan that is...
