KLM & Airbus

Tue Apr 17, 2001 7:44 am

How come KLM has no Airbuses? I know they had a few some 10 or more years ago, A300 if I'm not mistaken on European flights, but they soon got rid of them.

Can anybody tell me why they did so and why they still stick with Boeing?

They used to own A310s.

And why shouldn't they stick with Boeing? I don't know what their policy is, but maybe they just did not need the A330/340 after having bought some MD11s, and maybe the A310s were too similar to the 767s, and maybe they are happy with their 737s...

Maybe it is not a question of brand loyalty, but just that a change of fleet was never really necessary/adequate. After all, having more than one aircraft family in the same category (eg A320s and 737s, or 767s and A310s) may bring disadvantages on the maintenance side...
Just my guess

Thanks, Ikarus, for your prompt answer. You're right, they were A310's.

It still seems weird that they got some A310's, used them for a couple of years (not more than 3, I guess) and then sold them. I know on one of the routes they used them on (Amsterdam-Madrid-Amsterdam) they almost never had a full plane (so much better for the passenger), so why did they get them in the first place.
