Neither JA or UA will start flying to Asia from Portland. Our best hope is KE, or Nippon, as both these airlines have a presence here (as cargo carriers). United has the SkyWest connections to Seattle, where they have a rather large operation there, and then the Shuttle flights that feed to the SF/LA flights to Asia. Although, flying to Narita from Seattle takes a good 2 hours off the flight time from SF and almost 3 from LA. We've heard that ANA and KE will start looking at the economics of flying to PDX in 2002, and we should expect a decision by the end of Q1 in 2003. I'm sure that we'll see the DL M11s here every now and then. When a strike is looming, the planes always seem to break...
On a different note, I was down at PDX a couple nights ago, and the whole Delta end of the D councourse is being remodled. Aside from NW parking a 320 there overnight, the customs area is being taken out. The gates down there D13, 14, and 15 no longer have the Delta logo on them, a good sign that Delta will NOT be renewing their lease on these gates.
I guess I should spend more time in Seattle now...a bit more activity, although the airport really sucks.
