Get ready for a LOT of diveristy! Over 100 cargo, passenger, and charter airlines serve MIA to over 200 destiantions. Here's what to expect:

-American Airlines is King. You'll see a ton of AA jets of every form. MIA is a big base for thier 727s. You'll also find many AA 757s and 777s.

-United Airlines is Queen. Best part, they have a ton of 777s flying into Miami, including 777s used on MIA-ORD, MIA-LAX, and MIA-DEN, as well as Latin routes. The domestic 777 flights all leave early in the morning. MIA-DEN 772 leaves at 8.00AM, MIA-ORD leaves at 6.15AM, and MIA-LAX leaves at 7.00AM.

-Look out for the Air France 737-300! It departs for Port-Au-Prince every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 8.40AM.

-Jumbo jets love Miami! Look out for Atlas Air, Air France, China Airlines Cargo, virgin atlantic, British Airways, Lufthansa, Aerolineas Argentinas, and Iberia jumbos. Most leave at around 4.00-5.00PM, though AF, BA, and IB, in addition to thier afternoon flights, have late-night flights too. Though these flights have varying airplanes (BA swtiches b/w 777 and 747, AF and IB between 747 and A340).

-The action never stops. Because of the small time difference between Miami and Latin America, and since the flights are so long, most flights to Brazil, Chile, and Argentina leave Miami late at night, around 11.00PM-1.00AM.

If you like big planes, this is the place. Look for a ton of United, American, and Delta widebodies. And if you have time, journey over too Miami's other airport, FLL. It's Delta heaven (767s, 777s, MD11s, everything!), and you'll also be able to see some very pretty jetBlue planes and the South African Airlines 747-400 which lands almost daily. Enjoy your trip!

Excuse you, Mah4546, FLL is not Miami's "other" airport. Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International is Ft. Lauderdale's (duh!), and is in an entirely different county on top of that.

SOrry AC320, FLL is indeed Miami's other airport. Both are in the Miami CMSA and FLL is used mostly by Miami, not Broward, residents.

Last time I checked, FLL was still in Broward county, not Miami-Dade, and has nothing to do (well except for some of its passenger base) with the city of Miami. It is Fort Lauderdale's airport, and refering to it as Miami's "other" airport is wrong. Just like Newark, in the New York area, but not New York's airport. South Florida's other airport would be a much better generalization.

Mah4546,
It is obvious that you know as much about FLL, as you do about the aircraft that Delta flies to FLL. i.e.(MD-11 and 777).

We returned a rental car to Hertz at MIA. I saw a lot of 747's and other large aircraft.

AC320, try most of it's passenger base. MIA and FLL are a mere 19 miles apart. Daily, there are about 18,000 O&Ds at MIA, compared to 33,000 at FLL. The combined area of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale is half of that of all of Atlanta, even though Atlanta is only 300,000 people larger.

Sinlock, I very well know that there is no scheduled DL 772 or MD11 service into DL, but they are still a very common sight as temp. replacements for 762s and 763s.

That still doesn't make it Miami's airport. If 60% of PBI's passenger base came from Miami-Dade, sure that's where most of it's users come from, but that still doesn't make it Miami's airport, it's still owned and operated by Palm beach, making it their airport. I don't need facts about distance and area, if you looked at where I live in my profile, you would understand. I live right under where planes inbound for FLL make their turn for finals.

Sinlock,

At FLL you'll see lots of DL 737-200's, various MD-80 series, 757's, 767's, and L1011's. The 777 sometimes likes to make an appearance, but I have rarely seen the MD-11. The view of Delata's gates and ramp operations is very good from the departures level between Terminals 2 and 3. also, there's a spotters section on the roof of the parking garage that overlooks the whole airport.

Being the fact that I use to work for BCAD I think I would know what happens at FLL

My mistake, I thought you were asking what DL operates out of FLL.
