PBair To Europe

Mon Apr 23, 2001 2:47 am

I hope this hasn't been posted earlier!

The small regional carrier PBair of Thailand, which opperates a few former Sk F28-4000, are planing to lease a widbody (they are looking at either the MD11, the A340-300 or a B747-300) for their new flight to Skavstad (located ca 1.5 hrs south of Stockholm, Sweeden) that will start later this year. They are doing this because Thai is short of A/c and can't start any new flights. Also Angel Air is starting two new flights to Japan with A300 aircrafts.

I think it's quite starnge that such a small airline are going international longhaul, but i think it's because of the big increase of tourists from Scandinavia to Thailnad/Asia.

Do anybody have more info about what kind of a/c they are choosing, or other kind of info.
Personaly I hope they choose the 743 or MD11.

I post my source: http://www.pbair.com/PBAir-wings.htm because you will might not belive me (I didn't belive it when I first read it at "flightsim.no " (Norwegian flightsim page)

Not doubting your source but the history of civil aviation is littered with such announcements, less than 1% of which come to fruition.

It sounds silly, but it is easier for a Branson to start from nothing than it is for a very small local carrier to adapt its methods, culture and financing to cope with an immediate leap into long haul - with all its implications.

PB are going to use Airbus 340 on the Stockholm/Skavsta route. They will start in october 2 times a week to Bankong and 2 times a week to Phuket.

I can understand the apprehension voiced by PhilB.

I remember the huge surprise when Trans International Express which operates a small little commuter plane (Shorts 330) suddenly announced that it is obtaining a B747-312 from Singapore Airlines to operate on a JFK-TLV routing . . . and when the aircraft emerged from the hangar in Singapore with the beautiful TIE livery, I was genuinely impressed.

BUT as it turned out, even at this stage, the deal fell through and this beautiful plane was all dressed up and had nowhere to go. It never flew in these colours.

I hope that PB Air does operate according to her plans, would love to see a PB Air MD-11!!!
