What Is The Biggest Plane At Your Airport?

Mon Apr 23, 2001 10:01 pm

What is the biggest plane at your airport? At IAH, the biggest is CO 777s and BA 747s and sometimes AF 340s.

For OST (Ostend, Belgium, EBOS) it is the Antonov An124-100 of Heavylift.

For LGG (Liege, Belgium, EBLG) it is the Boeing 747-200 operated by Cargo Air Lines.

In ADL it seems to be B747's, B777's and DC-11's. However, Maybe 1-5 of them a day total as most flights International seem to be Ex-Perth, Melbourne or Sydney.

At MSY, the honors go to Delta and their 763's to ATL. Sometimes they send in a 764 as a substitution...in fact I flew on a 764 from MSY to ATL in February as a replacement for a 763. Other than that, CO brings in 757's, UA has 757's on a seasonal basis, and Fed Ex has an A310 flight.

The largest planes at SFO are Boeing 747-400's, operated by UA, SQ, JL, OZ, VS, BA, LH, sometimes NH, CI, and KL.

SFO will in the spring of 2006 start getting A380-800's from SQ and VS.  Smile

At Lindbergh Field in San Diego (SAN), it's BA's 777, which just replaced their daily 747-400 last month.

The largest aircraft SBN hosts are DC9-30s of US Airways and Northwest. FedEx sends in a 727 that's almost always parked. The largest airplane ever to come into SBN was the Continental MD-80 that made an emergency landing. Delta used to send in some 737-200s, but now they've been replaced by Comair CRJs. I think I saw a 767 once, but I might not have, as I was only 9 and didn't know too much about planes. I think it belonged to UPS. Does anyone know if UPS sends a 767 to SBN sometimes? I'm sure we could handle it as we have a 7099 ft. runway.

At BOS, we get 747s from Lufthansa and British Airways daily. We also get a lot of 767s (Delta, AF, UA, AA, etc.), A330, and a few A340s. Sometimes BA does fly the 777 in for the BOS-LHR route too.

At MHT, the largest is the UPS 763, then the FedEx A310, then United's 757 and Delta's MD-88.

747s! Iberia, British (twice daily), Virgin, Air France (twice daily), Aerolineas Argentinas, Alitalia, Lufthansa. Occasional SwissAir jumbo too. 777s from BA, UA, Lauda, and AA. Soon Varig too! A340s from Air France and Turkish, on the occasion from Austrian, Air Canada, and Lufthansa. This excludes cargo. At FLL, it's the SAA 744 that comes in from CPT.

Well on a regular basis, the largest plane we get in SJT, is a Continental Express Emb-120ER, once in a blue moon we have gotten ATR-72's and a Emb-135. The largest plane to ever come into SJT was a C-5A Galaxy for an airshow.

Usual traffic, A330-200.
Sometimes NCL gets a 747 or An124 though, but the A330 of Airtours is the biggest regular visitor.

I wish you people who lived in little obscure holes like I do would at least have the courtesy to type out the name of their airport (like I did) instead of assuming that we all know the callsign of your local airport.

Don't even get me started on the subject of those people who omit even the callsign so that the rest of us can guess which airport they're talking about.

At my hometown airport back home in Connecticut (BDL) we get on ocassion a AN-124 which is the largest. I have seen it 4-5 times this year, mostly transporting engine parts for P & W. As for sheduled planes now, Delta brings in their 763ER, 763, and 762 for daily service into ATL, and CVG. Cargo, a couple times a week, Atlas will bring in a 742 and UPS brings in many 763's daily, along with Fedex A310's an ocasional (maybe 2-3 a year) MD-11. Also, omini air cargo and world airways bring in DC-10's along with a couple other cargo carriers who bring in A300's. Quite a few cargos also bring in DC-8's. American, Delta, United, and US Airways all have shceduled 757 service and US Airways will ocassional subsitute a 767, along with United. BDL gets many diversions from JFK, BOS, and EWR so during a storm it wouldnt be uncommon to see 10-15 744's A340's and 777's parked there.

I remember that I saw some time ago an C-5 Galaxy on the military part of Brussels Airport, Melsbroek. It was the biggest I ever saw there... Further on there are B747's, A330/340's, but I only saw a B777 from Egyptair in BRU... Does somebody knows if there are other companies with B777-sevices to BRU?

In Ostend, I have already seen the huge An-124.

Best regards,

PVD does not get Continental 757. PVD only gets US Airways 757's on I think 4 daily departures, one from Delta, and 3 at the moment from United which will be downgraded come summer time. UPS flys 757 into BDL a few times a week.

In ATL, the honors are currently going to South African's daily 744, followed by the daily Lufthansa A340, and of course the slew of 777s and MD11s operated by various carriers.
