Design a longhaul airline!!

Fri Nov 27, 1998 3:25 am

What type of routes and type of aircraft would people operate if they could make a long haul airline? Where would you home base be? Remember, this is not a global airline, just an international one that flys only long haul.

I am very interest in this question as I am hoping to start an airline soon. And I would like to ask another one on top of it. If you were flying international from England were would you fly?

My airline would be based in Germany and I would fly only to Europe with a fleet of 6 MD-11's and 6 A310's.

Well, since this is one of the biggest issues on my mind every day, even when I'm at school, I'll be glad to tell you. When I'm ment to be taking notes at school I'm actually designing the perfect fleet and route structure for my airline in the back of my book. The teacher always walks by and she sees a big world map and all these meaningless(to her) codes like 747 and A300 in my book.

My international Airline:

I haven't decided on a name yet, I like names like Aero-Potal, Ansett and Aeroflot.
Maybe 'State Air' or 'State', or 'Federation', or maybe 'Aero-Bryan'.

I base my route system on all the places that I've been and liked, and the places I would like to visit one day.

Fleet:A300-600 8, 747-300 3.

Fleet(dom.):F.50 5, BAe-146-300 2, BAe-146-200 2, F.70 4.

Sydney to London via Columbo(Sri Lanka) and Turin (Italy).
Sydney to Aukland.
Sydney to Suva, Fiji.
Sydney to Johanasburg via Mauritius and Perth.
Sydney to Tonga via Carins.
Sydney to Christchurch.
Sydney to Madras via Darwin

Sydney to Darwin
Sydney to Carins
Sydney to Coolangatta
Sydney to Brisbane
Sydney to Melbourne
Sydney to Canberra
Sydney to Alice springs
Carins to Darwin
Alice Springs to Darwin
Coolangatta to Darwin

Of Course, I would start out small, with a single F.50, then grow from there.

Iain: in answer to your part of the question, I would use the same international fleet as I mentioned in my last post on this topic. I would base my airline at Luton(that is, if a 747 can land there, I'm not sure) I would fly the A300-600s to places like Italy, Spain, Greece, Cypruss, Finnland, Ukraine and northern Africa. As for the 747s, I would fly them to places like Montrial, Boston, Toronto, Sydney via Columbo, Aukland via Bankok, and Bombay.

Good luck with your airline,
Bryan Colbourne
