Is The Prototype Boeing 757 Still In Service?

Sat Apr 28, 2001 10:59 am

Anybody know this? Is the first one built back in '82 still flying? What airline?

What about L-1011 #1? Has it gone to the boneyard yet?

Thanks.

B757 #1 (N757A) never went into airline service. It has stayed with Boeing. 757 #2 went into service with Eastern Airlines as N501EA. It now belongs to NASA and has been reregistered as N557NA. 757 #3 went to Eastern as N502EA and now flies with US Airways as N600AU, making it the oldest 757 in passenger serivce.

N600AU may be the oldest 757 in service but the highest time is on G-MONB of Monarch which caries Boeing test and computer equipment monitoring the wing box as a long term flying laboratory.

A computer in the cockpit is linked to the wingspar and wing/fuselage connections and monitors for stress cracks and corrosion inducing conditions.

The prototype L-1011 was broken up at Ardmore Ok. in 1986. Part of the fuselage I beleive was put on display in Disney World Fl. or somewhere like that, I will try to look up exactly where in some old magazines I may still have. Hopefully someone can answer this exactly, or if it is still there? (Or even better a photo).
I remember seeing it at PMD back in Jun 1984, but stupid me didn't bother taking a photo of it.(They wouldn't let me through the main gate, and it was a bit far away). I have noticed that there is not one picture of it on A.net.
This along with 22 other TriStar's are missing from the A.net database. I have listed the others in the Photo Request forum last week under the heading "Missing TriStar Photo's" So if anyone has any pictures of these please upload them, so we can make this complete.

Sorry for changing the subject a bit...

The function of that 757 N757A in case you were wondering is as a test-bed for the F-22A ATF...
