Bangladesh Biman DC-10's, Retirement?

Sun Apr 29, 2001 2:29 pm

If there is a possible date, when is Bangladesh Biman going to retire their tired fleet of DC-10's? What replacements, second-hand A310's?

Ive done threads asking the same question, the replies those got indicated that BG dont have plans to replace the DC-10s yet, theyre up for privatisation and looking for a partner to take part of the airline, the buyer will then decide what equipment to take on, most probably the 777 Smile

Actually.....

I live in DAC!

Currently Biman is undergoing a restructuring program with the help of a private consultant, Citigroup (a private consortium of four companies....). The two main projects in this restructuring are the possible upgrading of fleet and possible privatization of Biman, which is currently an SOE. They are also in the process of looking for a Strategic Partner, and after sending out a tender last fall, they only received RFPs (Request for Proposals) from Gulf Air, and Qatar Airways. Biman is hesitant about these two as SPs because they are direct competitors on the Middle Eastern sector, Biman's primary routes, so they aren't exactly an ideal SP. For fleet upgrade, they are exploring either A340s or B777s. In January, Biman received 14 bids from various companies, including the manufacturers for possible lease/purchase of four of these new-generation aircraft. Now, they are on a standstill as they are considering the possibility of waiting until they get an SP and then letting the SP help them to decided on whether or not to purchase an A340 or B777.

If you want more info, just ask, because I am good acquaintances with the GM of Biman, as well of several of their divisional directors. I also have just completed a 25 page report on Biman, and I can supply you with an excerpt on the fleet upgrade if you would like.

Ryanb741, and King767...email has been sent!

GF-A330....they are not stealing Canadian's OLD paints scheme. Biman acquired that aircraft about 18 months ago, and have only painted their logo and titles onto it. It is a VERY expensive job to repaint an airplane, and that plane has a fine current paint job, so for a small, financially troubled airline like Biman, it would not be exactly optimum for them to repaint that airplane immediately due to the high costs of painting.
