Is It A Good Idea To Fly With PIA

Mon Apr 30, 2001 1:18 am

HI

I'VE JUST BOOKED A SEAT TO FLY WITH PIA IN JULY TO KARACHI FROM MANCHESTER, BUT AM HAVING DOUBTS OF FLYING WITH THEM.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I AM FLYING WITH THEM. BUT JUST WONDERED WHAT THEIR SERVICE IS LIKE. I'VE HEARD BAD REPORTS. IS IT TRUE ?

GF-A330---try scheduling for a flight on the 743--and make sure it's one of the flights that continues on to JFK--try and avoid the Manchester terminators--i've flown both and i felt that the service is much better for the New York flights--but a sincere suggestion--try and avoid the 742's--they are prone for delay's--let me know-what u decide on

I've flown PIA from Dubai to Heathrow and the flight was excellent. On time, clean aircraft (747-200 btw), efficient crew and yummy food (two meal services). Very civilised clientele. Saying things like "Pakistanis and flying don't mix" may sound witty and superior but it's also racist bullshit. In the new millenium, Flight Engineers and flying don't mix, yet PIA are flying high. Who's laughing now?!

Yes, I've heard that the 743 is a good plane as it is an ex-cathay pacific. The economy class has PTV's.

I've had a look on the PIA website and it suggests that I will be flying on a 743 afterall.

Although I have heard bad reports about the cabin crew, who are known to be careless with no consideration given to their passengers.

No need to "scream" GF-A330.
Why don't you go to http://www.dooyoo.co.uk and read the comments on PIA there?
And if you find safety reports important, you should know that Pakistan does not fully meet the ICAO standards: http://aviation-safety.net/database/operator/PIA.shtml

LMMl 14/32,i wonder if you could ask the engineer, that is if he is still alive, whether that was supposed to be a joke ......im sorry to say but i didnt find it funny at all. Specially considering that PIA played the key role in training the likes of Emirates,Malaysian,Singapore,Qatar airways and nearly 25 more airlines during the 70's and the 80's.Bad management has single handedly destroyed what was once a very prosperous airline(first in asia to own a B707 and B737).But i would never blame their "flying" for it as your funny engineer friend did.
Anyhow to answer GFA330's question......well let me tell you that the only problem in flying with PIA is that they are not consistent. They aint cosistently good or consistently bad.In the recent past i have heard many first hand accounts of people who flew PIA and most of them were pleasantly surprised themself by the service and everything. But because of the consistency issue you will surely hear about the odd-bad experience ...which would most likey have been blown out of proportions anyway. I think all MAN flights are served with B747-300 with PTV on every seat. And i do somewhat agree with Bigmo747 with the JFK terminator flights being better.
Personally i'd say go ahead and enjoy the great food they serve on PIA and have a great trip on an airline that gets way more then its share of bad publicity.

GF-A330 DO NOT FLY PIA, JUST AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

THERE ARE A FEW AIRLINES WHO TRULY DESERVE THE BEST FLYING TRASH CAN AWARD AND PIA ARE CERTAINLY THE WINNERS FOR IT.

I FLEW WITH THEM BACK FROM PAKISTAN ON 7 APR 01. YOU CAN READ MY TRIP REPORT.

THE CABIN CREW ARE NON EXISTANT. THEY ARE OLD, FAT AND NASTY.

THE PLANES AND PILOTS ARE SCARY.

AND THE FOOD....THE LESS SAID THE BETTER.

PROS: ARRIVE AT UR DESTINATION EARLIER THAN SCHEDULED......THATS WHEN THEY WANT TO !

CONS: HUH !

MY SEATS HAVE BEEN BOOKED EARLIER NOW, A MONDAY INSTEAD OF A WEDNESDAY BECAUSE THE TRAVEL AGENT HAD CROSSED THE DATES !

ANYWAY, NOW I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT I WILL BE FLYING IN A PIA 747-236M WHICH IS A COMBI. I'VE ALSO HEARD THAT THEY ARE MORE THAN 20 YEARS OLD!

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM THIS.

ARE THE INTERIORS ANY GOOD OR SHOULD I EXPECT CRAP.

I have flown with PIA several times. The only problems I had were with passengers. The food is great. I have also had great food on Delta ATL-LGW (steak, economy class).

PIA has aquired CAA Category-I status. The link provided by NoUFO is outdated.

I have traveled alot and the only airlines that I have had frequent problems with are American and American West. I would rate PIA as one of the best airlines I have flown on.

Rm-11 is that an honest opinion.

Out of curiosity which sector did you fly on.

Do you know if the service on their 747-200 combi's are any good.

This may sound strange but my aunt who worked for PIA for thirty years never flew them internationally, she always opted for the foreign airlines Smile

Ive flown their A300s and 747-200s in 1991. The flights were no better or no worse than any european carrier, and a lot better than most american carriers.

The food was great. No liquor of course. Flight attendants were charming. No real complaints.
In 1991, PTVs etc were unknown, so PIAs entertainment options were fairly standard in the industry.

Hello,

Firstly, if you have already confirmed about travelling with PIA, have a nice trip.

I flew with them from Karachi-Islamabad-Frankfurt-Dulles Intl.-Toronto. It took us exactly 24 hours with some airport delays (not PIA's fault). The aircraft was B747 200 not combi or anything. I was with my family in economy class and I have to say that the service was excellent. Sure, you wouldn't find passengers all dressed up, wearing perfumes on their body, nicely styled and you wouldn't find the airhostess modern and talking as if they knew passengers through out their lives. Sure, most of the passengers and the crew will be ordinary looking. Sure the food won't be from McDonalds or KFC neither would you get first class treatment but I would say that they are GREAT.

As long as the age is concerned, our lives depends on nature. I mean, if you are muslim, Allah knows when you are going to die and I don't know about other people. PIA transports millions annually and Alhamdollilah there hasn't been any deaths in the last couple of years for PIA.
P.S.
I would say that about 75% complaints about PIA people make are just silly. It is the habit of Pakistanis to believe what is told as true and spreading the word to other people.

A joke (probably made up by westerners) about the carriers from the subcontinent:
