I have seen obese pilots. I am not being judemental, just giving you the facts. FBWless.....you are mean! Just kidding. My dad and I are sitting here laughing histerically over that picture you somehow found. How in the world did you do that?
You can be as fluffy as you want. But high blood pressure and diabetes go hand in hand with obesity. Both are disqualifying criteria for a medical.
I have a big build with large shoulders. I wear a 54 jacket just so my shoulders fit. I weighed 260 lbs at one time. 220 is about normal for me.
In order to maintain a medical you need to keep in shape. But of course easier said than done. The most popular diet among pilots seems to be the Atkins diet. Its easier to maintain out on the road with those hotel buffet breakfasts....just grab all the bacon and eggs you can eat.
it has m very little to do with appearance and a lot to do with the medical. some guy thats 6ft6in and weighs 290 will have a problem w/ the medical. However look at warren sapp. (the football player) hes about 6ft5in and 320 and he would have no problem with the phisycal. whould they let him fly???
Actually, I talked to the flight surgeon for the 90th Fighter Squadron, and he said high blood pressure does reduce the ability to withstand high G forces. Why? I have no idea, but it's what the surgeon said.
