LONDON, April 30 (Reuters)
China Southern Airlines <1055.HK> has ordered two new Boeing 747-400 freighters from Boeing Co , Flight International said in its latest issue.
The magazine said the freighters, the first to be ordered by a Chinese airline, are due for delivery in June and September 2002.
It added that government approval for the purchase has been given but the engine choice still has to be finalised.
China Southern already operates a thrice-weekly service between Shenzen, Shanghai and Chicago using a 747-400 freighter wet-leased from Atlas Air Inc .
Wet-leasing involves providing the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance.
The airline said on April 12 that during its first year of operation, the freighter was achieving nearly 90 tonnes of cargo uplift on each flight out of China.
Flight added that China Southern is also looking at cargo routes to Asia and Europe.
