Anyone Flown Any Of These Arilines?

Fri May 04, 2001 12:35 pm

I posted this in Trip Reports, but due to the small respons I'm trying it out here...

I will be flying on the following airlines this summer, and any insight into their service (ie good/bad, past experiences) would be appreciated.

KLM: BOS-AMS
Transavia: AMS-Malaga
Emirates: Nice-Delhi
Indian Air: Delhi-KTM
Royal Nepal: KTM-Bangkok
Korean Air: Bankok-Incheon, Incheon-NYC

I am especially wondering about the segments on Air India and Royal Nepal...Thanks yall...C

Cms151515:

Which airlines will you take on Delhi-KTM leg?? Indian Airlines or Air India??

I never been on Indian Airlines before, but I took Air India on December 1999 on SIN-CGK-SIN flights. On these flights, I had mixed experience. The SIN-CGK leg, the plane (A310-300) was dirty and the service was really bad, but on the return trip, the plane was much cleaner (albeit the same type), and the service is better. I guess I got the bad plane and the bad crews on the first leg.

IMHO, Air India is just a mediocre airline, but it's cheap for one thing, and I don't mind flying with them on short haul trips.

Well KLM does not fly to BOS itself as it code shares with Northwest on this route. So what you will experience on the BOS-AMS route is the NW service rather then KLM.Many of the friends have flown BOS-AMS and as you would expect with any US carrier the service nothing great....... no PTV's and an old DC 10.
Emirates is a good airline as im sure you know.Food is excellent and you will really like the DXB airport when you transfer there.Business class of Emirates is excellent incase you are flying that.Lounges at DXB are fantastic as well.
Never travelled any of the other airlines...... but i would think Korean should be good. I must say youre off to hell of a trip !!! Have a good time.

I´ve flow all airlines exept Transaviv which mostly operate charter flights on behalf of Dutch tour operators. I´ve heard that thy should be no better or worse than other charter airlines. From time to time you might find their aircrafts offering a good distance between rows if the specific aircraft is also used by KLM for the scheduled european services.

Northwest I personally find boring. No PTV´s, small seats and limited legroom, "standard" food and service.

Emirates is great - don´t need to say more. Simply sit back and enjoy the "ride"! Probably the best airline apart from Malaysia Airlines - in my opinion of course!

Indian Airlines, well close your eyes and hope for the best..... No it´s not that bad. However planes are often dirty, food is nothing to write home about, seating is in any way poor. I you have the possibility you should go with Jet Airways instead. They are by far the best airline in India and are finally being award with international prices! They deserve them!!

Royal Nepal is a bit difficult. Their A310 (do they still fly this aircraft??) and 757s are OK and service is OK. Seat pitch is not above US standards but the service and food is OK. However flying their regional props is not that good. Seating is tight and most flights suffer heavy turbulence in the mountains.

Korean Air is getting better. I personally rank them just below Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines but not as good as Malaysia Airlines. However they outrank any US airlines flying to and from Korea. Some aircraft have PTV´s, but they offer great seating in all classes. I think their 747s all have 34" in Economy!

You´re in for a great trip - enjoy and say hi from me in Kathmandu!

Cheers
Thomas

Royal Nepal uses a leased 767 from Lauda Italy on the KTM-BKK. Haven't been on the flight, so can't say anything about the standard of it.

Of the listed airlines I have flown on Emirates, KLM and Indian Airlines. Out of those, Emirates were excellent, wonderful, KLM were mediocre and Indian Airlines were diabolical.

As your KLM flight will be operated by Northwest I can tell you that I have flown Northwest and would place them below Indian Airlines (yes, they're THAT bad). I can't believe some airlines are still flying DC10's in the year 2001.....
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

I've been on Royal Nepal FRA-LGW-FRA back in 1996. That time it was an A310. But they don't fly that type anymore. Pilot was German. Stewadesses are praying you while entering the plane. Service was really good for a 60minutes flight. We had a warm meal from Lufthansa Sky Chefs on the way to London and also a warm meal (british catering) on the way back.
