SAS EuroBonus wins Freddie Award for fifth year running

For the fifth year in a row, SAS EuroBonus has received the Freddie Award for best frequent flyer programme. The award is presented by Inside Flyer, a magazine for members of airline and hotel frequent-traveller programmes.

SAS were also awarded in further five categories;

Best award

Best newsletter

Best website

Best bonus promotion

Best elite level

Inside Flyer is an American magazine with a circulation of 140,000 in one American and one international edition. The Freddie Awards were established in 1988, but were initially limited to the American market.

Since 1995, the awards have been international, and enjoy high status in the travel and hotel industry, since members of the bonus programmes themselves decide who wins.

With United Mileage Plus your miles wont expire as long as you have one activity every three years, so that sounds reasonable. I have a Visa Mileage Plus Credit Card, so I don´t have any problem with expiration dates. But I know better FF programs like Continental One Pass, where you can claim a free ticket between any US state for 20,000 miles and with Mileage Plus you need 25,000. So every program has its good things and its bad things.
I personally don´t like Mexicana´s Frecuenta FF program, your miles expire in three years and if you want to claim an award (ticket) you have to pay $20 bucks for ticket issue and they don´t have e-tickets. They need to improve some things.
That´s my personal oppinion.

Yes, Eurobonus is one of the best programmes, becauase you have a lot of extra partners besides STAR ones, same goes for Lufthansa.
In terms of partners, SQs KrisFlyer is not so good as it is only star partners.

Thai's Royal Orchid programme is good as ALL fares (including discounted) are eligible for miles at one air mile for each actual mile flown.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Stay away from Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Frequent is the worst program in Star Alliance and probably the worst frequent flyer in the airline business.

The thing is that you get only 500 miles for European LH flights when you´re in Mileage Plus (don´t know about the others) - so this would make sense only if you travel more transatlantic or on other continents than within Europe.
If you´re a university student you can change to M&M´s "studentmiles" where your miles don´t expire as long as you´re a student.

Just watch yourself on the rewards. Most Star airlines only allow upgrade rewards on their particular operations (not codeshares on other carriers). Flight rewards are a little different..

Find the frequent flyer program of whom you will fly most often, and want the best service/class upgrades on. Getting silver/gold recognition will do you well into the lounges of all airlines, but choose that membership carefully. Too bad upgrade rewards are not common across all Star members.
