Airfones During Takeoff/landing?

Mon May 07, 2001 9:08 am

Can you use an AirFone during take off and during landing? I'm wondering because my brother is flying to Munich in August via Lufthansa out of SFO (I think an A340), but I'm going to be on my cell phone on the ground while he takes off he wants to call my cell just for fun. Can it be done? Thx...

Possibly not. There should be no mechanical reason... but the FA's could ask you to hang up until the seatbelt signs are off. The flight attendants are required to ask you to remove any headphones/store any books/etc. incase of an emergency, and instructions need to be given.

Ask the purser when you board the plane. Hope this help!

I don't know about LH, but most airlines have the onboard telephone system switched off during the take off and landing stages of the flight.

on Northwest you can use the airfones at any time except the exit row phones that cannot be used during taxi, takeoff, or landing.
