European Airlines Training Programs

Tue May 08, 2001 5:36 am

Hola!

I’m a 3rd year college student from Barcelona. In about a year I’ll be graduating with a major in International Business. In fact, I only have one semester of classes left, because from June to December this year I’ll be doing an internship in Germany.

I’m thinking about applying for a job at a European airline upon my graduation, and I’ve been looking around for the possibilities. Besides the regular entry jobs, many airlines have recruitment/training programs for recent graduates, which in my opinion seem really good. In general terms, they teach you about the airline industry, you take on some short term assignments/projects and after 12 to 18 months you get your first real job.

The programs I have found are:
BA’s Leaders for Business Programme
LH’s ProTeam (which in fact requires a Master’s degree)
SR’s Check-In and Networking programs
FRAport Training Program

Have you ever heard about any of these programs? How hard is it to get in? Are the possibilities any different from a regular entry job? Do you think I should get some front line experience first? (customer service, f/a, … ) Do you know if Air France or Iberia have similar programs?

Thanks!
