LAX Peak Periods

Tue May 08, 2001 2:41 pm

Anyone know what the peak times are for LAX (I.E. when there is a big clump of arrivals and departures all together?) I fly in and out a lot but have never noticed if there was a peak moment. I just found a perfect place to spot the planes landing but wasn't impressed on Sunday by the traffic. I figured I was there at the wrong time!

Thanks!

One peak period is from 1100 to 1230 for arrivals when most of the Asian flight arrive and a lot of US widebodies; you'll see four DL M11s, five or six DL 767 incl two or three 764, two UA 777s and lots more. A lot of departures from 1200 until 1400. Enjoy LAX !!! It's a great airport for spotting!!! The777Man

Early A.M. is also good when the flights from Australia start coming in. Other than that, it seems to be busy every time I fly into there.

I've noticed that mid-afternoon, around 3 pm has quite a few Asian and European arrivals.

LAX is permanently busy! Everyone is correct so far... a lot of Pacific 747's come in around noon to 2 or so. I've noticed that a LOT of 747's take off or land between 4-6. Many 747's take off at 530 or so, because when they land, it's 1130am or so in Europe, which is a great time to start your day.

So basically 11am-2pm and 4-6pm.

Also, Sundays are always a real dud at LAX... I have no idea why. I've gone spotting there on Sundays too and wasn't to impressive.

Lastly, try photographing the Theme Building when they light it up when the sun goes down! Pretty awesome colors!!!
