US Airways A321 And 757

Wed May 09, 2001 5:51 am

Hey,
this is probably not the first time this was talked about but since I never could read anything about it I'll just ask again...
Does anybody know what is going to happen to US 757? Are they gonna keep them besides the A321 or will they soon leave the fleet? How many 757-200s do they have in their fleet? I guess they have 30-something A321s on order, are those enough to replace the 752s?

To my knowledge the 757's are not leaving and will supplement the A321 on the transcons as well as being put on the extremely popular routes to south florida (FLL, MIA, PBI, RSW)

I have heard the same thing as USAFHummer, US will keep both types in their fleet for the time being, as they can use the extra capacity on many routes. US has also said that a couple of the 762s will fly domestic routes.

At some point, look for at least some of the US 757s to go, as some of the 757s in US's fleet are among the oldest in the sky, I think that 10 of their 757s are ex-Eastern Airlines examples that were among the first produced in the early 1980s.

Of course, if the UA/US merger goes through, everything will change. Wasn't there talk of UA and AA exchanging some of their 757s since UA would prefer the ex-TWA PW powered models now owned by AA and AA would prefer the the US 757s which have RR engines?

Dutchjet is correct, if the merger goes through, AA will keep the US 757s, but I am not sure about UA keeping the TWA 757s.
