I work at St. Louis and it definitely is a passing of the torch. It was a win-win situation for both airlines though. American gains another hub and it's infastructure. It was stated that if American had not come along when they did, TWA was going to go belly-up and liquadate. As far as TWA, employees are sad that the name is going away. However, I see many more smiles now now that employees know they have a future.
Some questions some may have:
- no, no American aircraft at the TWA gates yet,
- no, no 777's have come in to the gate either (darn!)
- we really don't know when we will see the first AA at TWA gates yet
- have not seen any 717's in AA colors yet either
