No, it did not. In fact, I think the EWR-NRT flights were the debut of the 777 in the CO fleet.

Continental is not new to Tokyo, while both IAH and EWR to NRT were both initated with the launch of the 777 Continental did fly SEA-NRT, they more recently had a 3 or 4x weekly HNL-NRT, which was pulled due to poor slot times at Narita, and they operate 17x weekly GUM-NRT with DC-10 and 737-800 equipment. In fact Continental serves more cities in Japan than any other US carrier. From Guam they serve Tokyo 17x weekly, Osaka daily, Sapporo 4x weekly, Niigata 2x weekly, Fukuoka 9x weekly, Sendai daily, Okayama 2x weekly, and Nagoya 2x daily.

Probably more info than you needed, but I was bored.  Laugh out loud

Cheers

I think Continental Micronesia once operates NRT-HNL by 747-200.

Continental Micronesia no longer operates the 747. Continental retired the 747 in 1997.

Continental began nonstop flights from Newark to
Tokyo in November 1998, shortly after the airline
took delivery of the Boeing 777. In December 98,
Continental began flights from Houston to Tokyo,
also with 777.

Currently, Tokyo is also served by Continental's
Micronesia division from Guam. There are no CO
flights between Honolulu and Tokyo. This route
was suspended in 1999 because of the Asian
Financial Crisis and the lack of competitive slots
for CO to operate these flights profitably.

DesertJets is correct. CO operates more flights
to more Japanese cities than any US airline.

The SEA-NRT route was sold to American Airlines
in the late 1980s or 1990.

Hola, Tomas. CO also flew IAH-HNL-NRT with their 747 sometime during the 80's, I think. (Or was it early 90's?).

Saludos,

José Manuel
