WW2 Bomber At SNA

Fri May 11, 2001 3:05 am

I posted this in the military forum as well. Does anyone have any information on the World War II bomber at SNA? Looked like a B17 doing touch and goes yesterday. Thanks!

There was a B-17 from Mesa, Arizona's wing of the Confederate Air Force the last two days at Camarillo. It's been in and out of the patter and then parking for ground tours. As far as I know, they're making the rounds in Southern California to generate some money to keep the restoration current. If you get a chance, pay the $4 and take the tour. It's a kick! I did it Tuesday......

Rominato,

Have you ever seen the old Connie at Camarillo? I wonder if it's still there...

I met the owner(s) a few years back and they offered to take me along on the plane to some air show. Not knowing their maintenance procedures, I didn't take them up on the offer. But it was fun to knock around on the ground...

I think the Connie is painted in TWA's livery.
I love America. I guess that makes me Bush's poodle, but I'd rather be a dog in New York City than a prince in Riyadh.

I'm glad to hear that...
I don't get out to Camarillo much so I didn't know...

There are actually two Connies at CMA. Both sit on the abandoned portion of the runway, so I fly over them all the time on short final. I've never had the chance to get up close and personal with them though, but that would be a kick to log a little multi-engine time on a beautiful machine like that. The Camarillo wing of the Confederate Air Force also has a big ole Curtiss, all silver, looking like it could still be used in the military, and a Martin painted in Pacific Air Lines colors.. pretty cool stuff...
